The <keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword> Disaster Management Authority has allowed reopening of all educational institutions from November 1 and Chhath Puja celebrations in the city amid Covid strict protocols, Deputy Chief Minister <keyword id="6354681" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manish-sisodia" source="Orion">Manish Sisodia</keyword> said on Wednesday. Schools will have to ensure that classes are conducted in a hybrid mode which means online classes will continue, he said. "All private and government schools can be reopened from November 1. However, parents cannot be forced to send their ward to schools, Sisodia said at a press conference after a DDMA meeting. The minister said more than 50 per cent of the students in a class should be called to school and all the staff are required to be fully vaccinated as soon as possible. Sisodia said a restricted number of people will be allowed to conduct Chhath Puja at predetermined spots across the capital. "People are requested to follow all Covid protocols and wear masks... The Covid situation is under control in Delhi but one has to remain careful, he said. Delhi schools and colleges to reopen from November 1, says Deputy CM

<ul><li>According to the LocalCircles survey, only 6 per cent citizens are willing to visit multiplexes and theatres to watch movies in the next 60 days, even if they open on September 1.</li><li>Only 36 per cent citizens say they will take metro or local trains in the next 60 days if they are restarted on September 1.</li><li>All this is when India's daily caseload for COVID-19 has now reached 70,000 cases and is now the highest in the world by a margin of over 40 per cent.</li></ul> A survey has found that 62 per cent of parents will not be sending their children to school even if they are reopened on government's orders on September 1. According to the LocalCircles survey, only 6 per cent citizens are willing to visit multiplexes and theatres to watch movies in the next 60 days, even if they open on September 1. Only 36 per cent citizens say they will take metro or local trains in the next 60 days if they are restarted on September 1. All this is when India's daily caseload for COVID-19 has now reached 70,000 cases and is now the highest in the world by a margin of over 40 per cent. With close to 400 districts with 1,000 total cases, Covid-19 is fast spreading into tier 3, 4 towns and rural India. In the LocalCircles survey in late July, 31 per cent citizens said that they had one or more Covid-19 positive cases in their social network. As the Government decides on whether <keyword id="37180" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="schools">schools</keyword> should be reopened for senior classes, LocalCircles asked parents that if the Government does go ahead and announces opening of schools from September 1 for senior classes and others thereafter, will they be sending their children/grandchildren to school. To this, 62 per cent outright siad 'no', while only 23 per cent answered 'yes'. Around 15 per cent parents were undecided. Given the fact that the Covid situation is not improving and numbers are only rising, the number of "aye" sayers has now reduced from 33 per cent to 23 per cent within 2 weeks. This indicates that even if schools were opened in regular manner, a large majority of parents will refrain from sending children to school and continue with online education instead. Case studies from many countries, including the US where 97,000 children came down with Covid-19 within 2 weeks of school reopening; and also in Berlin, Germany, where 41 schools reported children or teachers getting infected last week. All of these are causing concerns amongst Indian parents. Most parents are of the view that India shouldn't even consider reopening schools in regular mode till December 31 and instead the focus of Central and State Governments should be on equipping schools for online education, television or radio-based classes directly or in alliance with industry through the CSR programs. LocalCircles conducted a survey to understand what citizens feel about opening of multiplex and movie theaters, metro or local trains and most importantly, schools. The survey received over 25,000 responses from citizens residing in 261 districts of India. Citizens were asked if the government decides to restart metro/local trains from September 1, will they be taking them in the next 60 days. A total of 36 per cent answered 'yes' while 51 per cent answered 'no'; 13 per cent were unsure about it. After opening restaurants, gyms and malls, the Government is considering reopening multiplexes and movie theaters in the next phase of 'unlock' guidelines, slated to be issued by August-end. Citizens have continuously been opposing the reopening of movie halls as they could lead to an increase in spread of Covid-19. The survey asked if the Government opens multiplexes and movie theatres from September 1, will they go to watch movies in the next 60 days. Three per cent said they will go many times while 3 per cent said they will go once or twice. It was a whopping 77 per cent who said will not go to movie halls at all to keep themselves safe, while 14 per cent said they don't go to movie theatres anyways to watch movies. The comparison with last month's survey shows that citizens favouring opening of multiplexes and movie theatres is not increasing like in the case of metro and local trains. An increased number of people are not in favour of reopening theatres and multiplexes. It is a 77 per cent of citizens in August compared to 72 per cent in July, who have said they will not visit multiplexes or movie theatres in the next 60 days. How Educated Are The Bollywood Stars?

Companies and startups are ready to raid engineering and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=B-school+">B-school</a> campuses across India this placement season, adding to the fierce war for talent already raging between large e-Commerce companies and established old-world recruiters. 
 
The startups which are looking for fresh talents include ShopClues, LocalOye, Urban-Clap, PropTiger, Indus Insights, MyRefers, CodeNation, Embibe, Jombay, Lybrate and ShadowFax. 
 
Moreover, a survey of 11 startups suggests they will step up overall <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=campus+hiring+">campus hiring</a> to 770 students from the Class of 2016 compared with only 250 that they hired from the last batch. 
 
Bulk of this hiring will be across top engineering colleges and B-schools, including Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Management. 
 
Don’t be disappointed if you are not studying in the above mentioned institutes as a handful will also recruit at leading undergraduate colleges including Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram College and St Stephen's, and design schools such as National Institute of Design and National Institute of Fashion Technology. 
 
Now comes the most interesting part- salary! Average salaries offered by these startups range between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 18 lakh at engineering colleges and B-schools, say campus sources. Prop-Tiger, for instance, is paying upwards of Rs 15 lakh plus benefits at tech schools; CodeNation will pay around Rs 24 lakh. 
 
At least three of these startups — Lybrate, LocalOye and ShadowFax — are first-timers on campus while others, at the very least, are doubling last year's numbers. In some cases, hiring targets are going up five-fold or even 16-fold compared with last year. 
 
The strategies behind the hiring are discussed below: 
1. Depending on the kind of institutes, students are being hired for a variety of roles: from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=software+development+engineers">software development engineers</a>; core management &amp; data scientists; product, operations and marketing; merchant acquisition and servicing, to human resource management, product and graphic designers and even entrepreneurs in residence. Sanjay Mehta, a Mumbai-based angel investor who participated in and led 11 angel deals in 2015, says the reason why startups are so gung-ho about <keyword id="511161" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="campus-hiring">campus hiring</keyword> is because they want to put this talent to work on cutting-edge technology and new delivery models. Not surprisingly, several institutes where placements have started, including Birla Institute of Technology &amp; Science-Pilani and <keyword id="75110" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="NITs">NITs</keyword>, are seeing these startups go head-to-head with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=traditional+recruiters+">traditional recruiters</a> to hire talent. At other B-schools and <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> where pre-placement offers (PPOs) have started flowing in, it is again the startups that are leading the pack. 
 
2. Much high in numbers: The numbers speak for themselves. If ShopClues is revising its hiring intake from around 100 last year to 180-250 this time, realty portal PropTiger is doubling its target to 50. Even five-month-old B2B (business-to-business) hyperlocal delivery startup ShadowFax, which raised $300,000 from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a>'s founders and others in August followed by a $8.5-million Series A round by Fidelity's proprietary investment arm Eight Roads Ventures barely a month later, is looking to hire from IITs, <keyword id="46923" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIMs">IIMs</keyword> and other leading management institutes for its technology, data science and operations teams. 
 
3. Tapping more institutes: In the process, these companies are reaching out to many more institutes this year. "If there is a campus that attracts bright minds of the country, we want to be there. This includes other engineering colleges as well as top colleges in economics and commerce," says Saurabh Sharma, founder &amp; chief executive officer of Indus Insights. The Big Data firm made 40 offers last year, mostly at the top IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Madras). This year, it plans to make 100-plus, including at NITs (Trichy, Warangal, etc), SRCC, LSR, Christ College and Indian School of Business. 
 Similarly, Delhi-based mobile services marketplace UrbanClap, which hired 30 business development and operations specialists from <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> last year, is extending its reach to several new institutes, including <keyword id="6431668" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT-Delhi">IIT-Delhi</keyword> and IIM-Ahmedabad as it gears up to take on 80-100 this year. 
 
Salaries apart, the other drawing factors include the opportunity to work on challenging problems. "We don't have any glass ceilings. Freshers could be running entire teams within six months of joining," says Aditi Avasthi, founder and CEO, Embibe. "Students are opting for startups aggressively as some of the roles offered by them are quite challenging and inclined with their aspirations," sums up Rahul Katyal, placement manager at IIT-Bombay.

Gear up to face interviews! Engineering and business schools to witness over three-fold jump in recruitments in India

The Delhi University has initiated the process of declaring the first cut-off list for 2019 for admissions to undergraduate (UG) courses. Among the colleges that have released the first cut off 2019 are SRCC, Kirori Mal College, Satyawati College, Dyal Singh College and <keyword id="629093" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shaheed-Bhagat-Singh-College">Shaheed Bhagat Singh College</keyword>. Shri Ram College of Commerce first cut off for BA (Hons) is pegged at 98.5%, 0.75% up from last year. The cut off for BA Economics (Hons) is 98.75%. However, the cut-offs for Miranda House, Hindu College, Lady Shri Ram College for Women or LSR College, <keyword id="6454339" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="gargi-college">Gargi College</keyword>, <keyword id="6479792" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ramjas-college">Ramjas College</keyword>, <keyword id="124592" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sri-Venkateswara-College">Sri Venkateswara College</keyword> and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College has not been released yet. Abiding by the guidelines from Delhi High Court, the <keyword id="151282" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-of-Delhi">University of Delhi</keyword> has extended the registration date for the admission process till 22 June 2019. The admissions under the first cut off will take place from 29 June to 1 July 2019. While the second and third cut-off list will be announced on 4 July and 9 July, respectively. Earlier, the varsity was expected to announce the cut-offs in 20 June. However, the schedule was revised on Wednesday. The number of students scoring 95% and above has increased by 38.4% this year, which is expected to impact the cut-off criteria of universities. This year, the National Testing Agency will conduct an entrance examination for the University of Delhi, for certain courses. The exams will be held between 30 June and 6 July 2019. While admissions to most of the undergraduate courses will take place according to their respective cut-offs. The admission for the 2019-2021 batch will enroll students for nearly 56,000 seats for the under-graduate courses. While, for the PG courses, the university has offered around 9,500 seats. Nearly 282 new seats have been added to the Delhi University courses. Stepping up the efforts, the University of Delhi is considering one percent relaxation for the students from government-run and rural schools. In its <a href="https://www.nirfindia.org/2019/CollegeRanking.html">list </a>of top colleges, Miranda House and Hindu College of Delhi University were the top performers. The rankings are based on a number of parameters including Teaching, Learning &amp; Resources, research, placement metrics, and outreach &amp; women participation. 1. Miranda House Delhi Score: 73.72 Placement: Out of 1,160 students admitted in 2016-2017, 70 were placed with salary of ₹3,37,000 per annum 2. Hindu College Delhi Score: 70.57 Placement: Out of 981 students admitted in 2016-2017, 70 were placed with salary of ₹600,000 per annum 3. Presidency College Chennai Score: 68.01 Placement: Out of 955 admitted in 2015-2016, 103 placed in 2017-18 with average salary of ₹1,38,000 per annum 4. Here are India’s top 10 colleges ranked by the government

The highest offered bagged by these freshers stood at over ₹30 lakh. </li><li>Among the top recruiters were Gartner, EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Samsung and Accenture. This includes the first time recruiters as well. </li></ul>Slowdown doesn’t seem to be affecting the placements at the premier institutions in India. Not just Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), undergraduate colleges like Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) and St Stephen's college affiliated to the University of Delhi also witnessed a<a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/jobs/job-offers-at-premier-undergrad-colleges-belie-slowdown-average-packages-zoom/articleshow/74289101.cms?from=mdr"> jump in the job offers and average salaries</a>. For the 2019-20 placement season, the average salary package at LSR and SRCC went up from ₹7.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per annum. The highest offered bagged by these freshers stood at over ₹30 Lakh. As many as 130 students received job offers at SRCC. “We haven't seen an overall impact of the slowdown in placements. The number of companies coming has more or less remained the same since last year, however the number of students that were made an offer to have increased,” Kanika K Ahuja, placement in-charge at LSR told ET. The students who get admission to these Delhi University-affiliated colleges have to score over 95% in the 12th grade — due to high cut-offs. Among the top recruiters were Gartner, EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Samsung and Accenture. On the other hand, <keyword id="311892" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shaheed-Sukhdev-College-of-Business-Studies">Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies</keyword> (SCBS), which is ranked as the second best undergraduate b-school in India, bagged 106 offers at an average compensation of over ₹7 lakh. The highest offer stood at ₹18 lakh per annum. The average compensation at other DU colleges fluctuated between ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh per annum. While the overall average salaries in India went up by 45% for undergraduate students. This is despite the economic downturn in the country. The growing trend of summer placements The growing trend of summer placements and pre-placement offers too might have had an effect on the increased interest of recruiters. Companies like Deutsche Bank, Citi Bank are also banking on summer placements to assess talent, thereby extending pre-placement offers. At SCBS, Goldman Sachs visited the campus to hire interns for their investment banking division. Students also received PPOs from companies like KPMG, RocSearch and Grofers. Delhi University students bag job offers that pay as much as ₹31 lakh per annum

The higher education programme will offer full time courses in various sports to furnish <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/grand-kick-off-delhi-may-soon-have-its-first-sports-university/articleshow/71431182.cms?from=mdr">sportspersons with literary skills</a>. The sports university will offer undergraduate, post graduate and doctorate courses in cricket, hockey and others. On the same lines, a CBSE affiliated school focussed in sports will also be created. It will include six university schools undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. “Earlier, a sportsperson used to be uncertain about his future, just for the fact that if he is not able to establish a career in sports, he will just be called a school pass out. He would not get a job because every job requires at least a graduation degree to get through,” <keyword id="711250" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arwind-Kejriwal">Arwind Kejriwal</keyword>, Chief Minister of Delhi <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Delhi/cabinet-approves-bill-to-set-up-indias-first-sports-university/article29589394.ece">told</a> The Hindu. The degree focussed in sports will also make the players eligible for government jobs including civil services. The process of the development of curriculum and subjects is underway. “Now, the curriculum has to be fixed. Experts will be roped in,” said Kejriwal without announcing a timeline. “It is a matter of disappointment that many students who have played sports at the national-level are nowhere on the same platform as students who can give their IAS examinations because they have a graduation degree. The share of jobs under sports quota is also limited. We are hoping to eradicate that uncertainty from the minds of sportspersons,” said Deputy Chief Minister <keyword id="6354681" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="manish-sisodia">Manish Sisodia</keyword>. The proposed state university was approved by the cabinet under the ‘<keyword id="8178343" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Sports-University-Bill">Delhi Sports University Bill</keyword>’ and is awaiting Lt. Governor Anil Baijal’s nod. Once approved, the bill will have to be passed in the Assembly.
