Amid the severe pollution gripping the national capital, <keyword id="19948557" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-metro" source="keywords">Delhi Metro</keyword> recorded its highest-ever daily ridership on November 18, with a staggering 78.67 lakh passenger journeys, according to official data. This figure exceeded the previous high of 77.49 lakh passengers on August 20 of this year, the data said. On November 18, the Yellow Line, which connects Millennium City Centre in Gurugram to Samaypur Badli in Delhi, saw the highest passenger traffic, with a record 20.99 lakh commuters. The Blue Line followed closely with 20.80 lakh passengers, while the Red Line recorded 8.56 lakh commuters, 8.15 lakh in Pink Line and 7.93 lakh in Violet Line. The Magenta Line saw 6.19 lakh passengers, followed by the Green Line with 4.12 lakh commuters, 81,985 in Airport Line, 57,701 in Rapid Metro, and 50,128, in the Grey Line, as per the data. Thick grey haze continued to choke Delhi for the third consecutive day on Tuesday, with pollution levels remaining alarmingly high at 488 in the 'severe plus' category. To encourage more people to use the metro in this scenario, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is running 60 extra trips on weekdays, offering more capacity than usual, an official statement said. The DMRC has recorded its 25 highest passenger journeys since August this year, the statement added. It emphasised that the more people opt for the metro over private vehicles, the greater the reduction in vehicular emissions, which will help improve the air quality of the city and its surrounding areas. In addition, the DMRC has introduced several measures to make travel more convenient for passengers, the statement read. These include the ability to book single or multiple journey tickets through various digital platforms, allowing passengers to plan their journeys anytime and anywhere without the need to stand in queues at the station. Furthermore, partnerships with organisations such as IRCTC, NCRTC, ITPO, and others have made it easier for people to not only travel by metro but also access interconnected travel options, along with various offers and events, all with seamless ease, the statement said. The DMRC also stated that it is one of the most <keyword id="24050954" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="environmentally-friendly-transport" source="keywords">environmentally friendly transport</keyword> options and the first metro system in the world to be registered for carbon credits with the United Nations for its environmental measures.

The <keyword id="6360676" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railways">Railways</keyword> will go the <keyword id="6356415" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Metro">Metro</keyword> way and install automatic flap gates with bar code scanners at stations to facilitate faster ticket checking and ease the pressure on ticket examiners and collectors, according to PTI news report. To begin with, the access control system, already operational in <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> and <keyword id="6366797" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Metro">Delhi Metro</keyword> services, will be implemented at non-metropolitan stations where traffic rush is very less. CRIS, the software arm of the Railways, is on the job to make the new flap gate system operational at <keyword id="1407671" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Brar-Square">Brar Square</keyword> station in Delhi Division as a pilot project. The access control system at Brar Square will be functional in the next three months, said a senior <keyword id="54441" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railway-ministry">Railway Ministry</keyword> official involved with the project. If successful, the system will enable the Railways to deal with the shortage of train ticket examiners and ticket collectors. According to the system design, an encrypted QR code will be printed on unreserved tickets for the designated station where passengers need to enter or exit through these gates after validating their tickets. The automatic flap gate system can handle faster entry or exit of passengers during the rush hour. Besides installing automatic gates, there will be counters at the Brar Square station to provide QR-coded tickets to passengers for entry or exit. Though the system is successfully tackling the Metro rush in Delhi and Kolkata, it has never been tried in the railway system. While Metro stations are situated either at elevated or underground levels, railway stations are on the surface without boundary walls. "We chose Brar station for conducting the trial because the passenger rush is limited here," said the official. As a first step, the entire station will be fenced so that no passenger escapes without ticket. It costs about Rs 4 lakh to install the automatic gate with bar code facility. Besides, there will be thermal printers at ticket counters for bar coded tickets.

 To combat the ageing, the <keyword id="61705" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Metro-Rail-Corporation">Delhi Metro Rail Corporation</keyword> (DMRC) has planned to streamline the system. <keyword id="910405" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sharat-Sharma">Sharat Sharma</keyword>, director (operations) told the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>, “"Nine stations on Line 2 and Line 3 are being been remodelled for better passenger convenience. This includes shifting and relocation of stairs, tickcounters and exitentry gates to ease congestion." 
 The nine stations are namely HUDA City Centre, <keyword id="6366601" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajiv-Chowk">Rajiv Chowk</keyword>, New Delhi, Kirti Nagar, Guru Dronacharya, MG Road and <keyword id="208523" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Noida-Sector">Noida Sector</keyword> 15, Noida Sector 16 and <keyword id="209917" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Noida-City-Centre">Noida City Centre</keyword>, where frisking gates have been improved, more ticket vending machines have been assembled. 
 <keyword id="445" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sharma">Sharma</keyword> further said that at Rajiv Chowk, the Viewers' Galleryhas been made accessible to commuters to enable easy passage to either platforms there.

Delhi metro network to get refurbished after 14 years

New Delhi, Feb 12 () Siemens Ltd on Wednesday said the company has installed an efficient power supply system with advanced passenger safety features in the Kolkata East-West Metro Project. The project of Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (KMRCL) will be inaugurated on Thursday, Siemens said in a statement. "Siemens has successfully implemented an efficient power supply system with advanced passenger safety features for Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL). Siemens-powered metro line is to be inaugurated in Kolkata (tomorrow)," the company said in a statement. The company added that it has designed, tested and commissioned power supply systems, including cutting-edge supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) and operation control centre and advanced intelligent infrastructure features such as passenger safety and digital simulation. The solution also includes digital simulation of the entire metro rail corridor in Kolkata. The Kolkata East-West Metro Project is a rapid transit system connecting Kolkata and Howrah, it said. It has a total length of 16.1 kilometers and serves 12 stations. The installation of the system has made six elevated stations with the operation control centre and depot at central park along the 5.5-kilometer route operational. Siemens Head (Mobility) Tilak Raj Seth said, "We take great pride in partnering KMRCL in this prestigious project. The metro rail system has proven to be the most efficient mode of transportation in terms of energy consumption, space occupancy and the number of people transported." ABI HRS
