The University of Delhi also abbreviated as DU is a public central university created in 1922. DU offers a wide range of courses in the under graduation, graduation, doctoral levels besides many diploma courses across a diverse range of fields like humanities, science, commerce, management, law, and engineering. Here we discuss how to get admission to the DU for the various graduate programs. Entry into Delhi University Admissions to DU are based on merit. The candidates seeking admission to the various courses need to clear an entrance examination conducted by NATA. For management courses, the scores of the CAT examination will be considered. Entrance examination pattern The entrance examination pattern of the DU consists of multiple choice questions excepting in case of admission to language courses. The total duration of the entrance examination will be two hours. The students will have to take the entrance tests on computer-based mode. For UG courses, each question carries four marks with one negative mark for a wrong answer. The syllabus for the entrance tests for the UG courses will be based on the topics students studied in their plus 2 levels in their respective streams. The way to score well in the DU entrance exams for graduation courses includes becoming familiar with the exam syllabus, mastering the exam preparation materials available in the market, and practicing the previous year question papers. Admission process after the entrance examinations The results of the various entrance exams will be announced online in the month of July. For each of the categories, a separate merit list will be prepared by the university. The students are required to take a print out of the results for moving ahead with the subsequent admission process. For admission to the various merit-based UG courses, the university will announce the cutoff. The same will be published on the official website of the DU. The cut off will vary year on year depending on the demand of the seats in the given course. Candidates scoring the marks specified in the cut off can apply for admission. Scanned copies of the required documents will have to be uploaded online and once the admission is approved, the candidates will have to pay the admission fee online.

This is despite the fact that the university had already increased the number of seats, after implementing reservations for EWS (economically weaker sections). Delhi University to begin academic session from August 10 with online classes

Yes, that's because DU Open Days/Open House has kick-started officially starting today, and is inviting aspirants and parents to attend the sessions for clarity on admission queries. 
 
Caution - If you are an outstation candidate who wants to get into this University, it's not a good idea to sit at home till the cut-off lists are out. 
You may be thinking that the application procedure going online buys you sometime, however, the fact is this is the most crucial time for you to visit the University. "Students do not realize that this provision is to tell them the best they can get. Will a candidate be allowed to take economics even if she has not studied the subject in Class XII? Legal studies and Mass media studies are to be considered as academic subject or electives? 
 
The session informed students that to keep the system centralized, the university has done away with entrance tests in various courses barring courses like Bachelor in Business Economics and Bachelor in Finance and Investment. For students seeking admission through sports quota, fitness test has now been centralized. While the best of four criteria which includes one language and three academic subjects, remains the same as last year; 2.5 % points will be deducted from them, if the subject applied for is not included in vocational subject. Besides, 10 marks will be deducted for every vocational course not included. Also, there will be a maximum penalty for a stream change in case of BA and B.Com honors courses. 
 
DU's Open House Days can therefore go a long way in helping students clear doubts, and figure out what could suit them the best as per their stream, scores and ambitions. New Delhi, Nov 24 (PTI) Pending <keyword id="6402403" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="results">results</keyword> for various <keyword id="6398300" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Postgraduate">postgraduate</keyword> and <keyword id="6476913" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Undergraduate">undergraduate</keyword> courses will be declared by <keyword id="6360099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university">Delhi University</keyword> by November 30, the <keyword id="6355014" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-high-court">Delhi High Court</keyword> was informed on Tuesday which observed that DU's "neck is on board" if it doesn't do that. The submission was made by the varsity in response to an application alleging that there was violation of the court's earlier order when DU had undertaken to declare all the results by October 31. A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad noted the submission made by the counsel for DU that the remaining results of postgraduate and undergraduate courses shall be declared by November 30. The bench deferred the order waiting for updated instructions of DU's counsel Mohinder Rupal. The bench also raised questions over filing of the application in a disposed petition. The high court had earlier disposed of two pleas by law student Prateek Sharma and National Federation of Blind seeking to set up effective mechanisms for visually impaired and specially-abled students so that educational instructions can be transmitted to them properly and teaching material is provided to them through online mode of teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. The court questioned the maintainability of the application and asked petitioner Sharma as to why he has filed it in an already decided matter. Why did you file an application in a decided matter. Answer us on the maintainability first and not on merits... We have reservations in entertaining the application in a disposed of petition, the bench said. The petitioner, represented through advocate H S Hora, stated in the application that DU has violated the October 12 order where under the varsity itself had undertaken to adhere to the timeline for declaration of results of PG and UG courses and the last results had to be declared by October 31. On October 12, the high court had also directed the varsity to upload the mark sheets on its website and that no student should be asked to physically come for collecting them. The high court had earlier asked the Delhi University and its examiners to expedite the evaluation process of online open book examination (OBE) and declare the students' results preferably by the first week of October.

Delhi University to declare pending results of post and undergraduate courses by November 30

Delhi's Seelampur Basti could not stop rejoicing when 14 children who grew up here were abe to make their way to the prestigious <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> by the time the second cut-off list was out. 
 
14 students, 12 of whom are girls, have secured admission in popular North campus colleges out of the 78 students who appeared for class XII examination from Seelampur slum area. 
 The highest scorer Saugatha has managed to secure a seat in Urdu Honours in <keyword id="117655" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kirori-Mal-College">Kirori Mal College</keyword> at 86.5 per cent. Her father is a street vendor. 
 
Even as the credit goes to these hard working students who have made their basti proud, significant efforts by an NGO called Asha in educating the slum children and helping them achieve higher education, has been instrumental in helping such bright kids enter Delhi University year-on-year. 
 
Last year, a whopping 114 students guided by this NGO had made the cut. Sandeep, with 94% marks, got the highest score in this group in 2015. He lived in a slum in north Delhi’s Peeragarhi and managed to secure a seat in Rajdhani College for B.Com (Hons). The year before, in 2014, least 150 slum kids got admission in DU. 
 
For these students, the main difficulty was not just to get resources to study, but a larger battle of convincing parents to allow them to pursue education as against using them to start earning and contributing to the family income. For Asha the NGO, there have been such challenges of counseling the family, especially that of girls, before they can start educating and preparing the kid for exams. Their help then extends to dressing them up with new clothes, planning their travel, helping them fill college admission forms, get educational loans for those who wish to study in private colleges. 
 
Since 2008, Asha has been helping students from the slums to go to university. In the first batch, 20 students had got admission in DU and the numbers have been increasing since then. Although this year the students qualifying to DU are less than last year, its too early to say because three cut-off lists are still awaited.

The <keyword id="6355014" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-high-court">Delhi High Court</keyword> on Friday gave its nod for the conduct of online <keyword id="9315547" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="open-book-examinations">Open Book Examinations</keyword> (OBE) for final-year students of <keyword id="6360099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university">Delhi University</keyword>. Justice Prathiba M Singh, while giving the go-ahead, passed certain directions to be followed by the DU and the University Grants Commission (UGC). The court directed that the questions should be posted on online portal as well as emailed to all the candidates. "Students are to be given two hours for attempting the question papers. One extra hour shall be granted for uploading of the answer sheets on the portal," the court said. It directed that an auto-generated email shall be sent to the students to acknowledge that their answer sheets have been accepted. The bench also directed the CSC Academy -- whose Common Service Centres will be used by the students lacking in requisite infrastructure to sit in the exams -- to notify all its centres to be used for the conduct of OBE. "DU Grievances Officer shall redress the emailed complaints of students regarding the process within 48 hours. If not, the matter shall automatically be referred to the Grievances Redressal Committee," the High Court added. The court had on Wednesday reserved orders on a batch of pleas that challenged the university decision to conduct online Open Book Examinations for final-year students. Initially, the varsity announced that the exams would commence from July 1, but later postponed the same to July 10 and again till August 15 without giving a specific date for examinations.

He said teachers have learnt about students sharing answers on social messaging platforms like WhatsApp. "There is no way to check such instances. The answers to many questions are easily available on the internet and students will just copy them. How do we know whether a student has actually understood what he has written? It is disadvantageous for those who actually put in hard work and prepare for the exams," the professor added. "The students are in touch with each other over WhatsApp. Even those students, who may not be willing to share answers, are forced to do so in the name of friendship. There is no way we can check this or keep a tab on it. If I get the same answer in 10 answer sheets, how am I supposed to evaluate them?" another professor rued. <keyword id="587567" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University-teachers">Delhi University Teachers</keyword>' Association treasurer Abha Dev Habib said all students have the same study material. "Earlier, the students would visit libraries and take additional notes, but due to the pandemic that has not been possible. I have sent the same notes to every student and they will be relying on similar material," she said. Abha, who teaches at Miranda House, said teachers are awaiting clarity on how they will evaluate the answer sheets. "We do not know whether we will be sent the answer sheets or given a login to the portal. We do not know which software will we be using to evaluate the answer sheets. There has been no training given to us on this," she said. Pankaj Garg, former academic council member and a professor of Rajdhani College, concurred with Abha and said teachers will face difficulties in evaluating the examinees. "There is a fair possibility that there would be swapping of the pages while scanning and uploading, this would disturb the sequence... teachers will have to be very careful in connecting all those pages which belong to the same question," he said. While scanning, some pages may be blurred and it would be difficult to read them carefully. It would be equally difficult to connect to the next page and hence, the continuity of the answer would be lost, Garg said. For teachers, the most challenging point would be marking of pages, it seems that evaluation would take much longer, he added.
