New Delhi, Jan 9 () Mahindra Logistics Ltd (MLL) on Thursday said it has launched a distribution centre for the pharmaceutical industry in the country's northern region, making a foray into first-of-its-kind temperature-controlled warehouse in the pharma sector.
 Through this facility, MLL will manage the warehousing and distribution for its client, in addition to their inbound and outbound multi-modal transportation across India.
 "MLL, one of India's largest 3PL solution providers, recently launched a state-of-the-art distribution centre for the pharma industry in North India. With this launch, MLL forays into a first-of-its-kind temperature-controlled warehouse in the pharma sector," the company said in a statement.
 It said the warehouse is specially designed and equipped with the latest temperature-control mechanisms for efficient power consumption, customised storage, diverse material-handling equipment (MHE) and technological solutions, including 'Mycargo360', a transportation management system.
 Rampraveen Swaminathan, chief executive officer of Mahindra Logistics, said, "We are delighted to open this facility and we are certain that this facility will align our clients' distribution network in North India and achieve their post-GST requirements."
 He added, "The facility is sustainable and energy efficient. Our integrated distribution solution combining warehousing, transportation and express movement will help our customers optimise their cost and on-time delivery."
 MLL provides a range of services and solutions, including warehousing, distribution and cross-border logistics solutions for the pharma industry.
 With warehousing, transportation and freight forwarding operations spanning 15 million square feet and 75,000 vehicle placements per month, MLL has an extensive pan-India network and global connectivity, it said.

Mahindra Logistics opens distribution centre in northern India

Mumbai, Mar 4 () Allcargo Logistics on Wednesday said it has received markets regulator Sebi's approval to launch an open offer to acquire an additional 26 per cent equity stake in logistics firm Gati. On completion of the open offer, which was announced when the deal was inked in December 2019, Allcargo will emerge as the controlling stakeholder in Gati with a 46.83 per cent ownership, the company said in a statement. Allcargo is offering to acquire around 3.17 crore shares, constituting 26 per cent equity stake in Gati at Rs 75 apiece. If the open offer is successful, it will take Allcargo's stake in Gati to 46.83 per cent, the company added. Reacting to the development, Allcargo's shares on Wednesday gained nearly 1 per cent to Rs 110.40 apiece, while Gati's stock closed 0.75 per cent down at Rs 66.55 on the BSE. "This will mark the completion of the acquisition process which was initiated on December 5, 2019. The open offer is expected to be launched this month and to be closed by April," the company said. The statement further said Allcargo has already deposited Rs 238 crore, equivalent of 100 per cent of the capital required to fund the open offer, into an escrow account set under the relevant Sebi norms for the open offers. The company has already completed the preferential allotment and part purchase of promoter shares in January, following which two Allcargo directors have already been appointed on the Gati board. "The acquisition is in line with our long-term strategy to strengthen the domestic business and will further synergise our efforts to offer end-to-end services to our domestic and international customers," Allcargo founder and Chairman Shashi Kiran Shetty was quoted as saying in the statement. Shetty also said the acquisition will help Allcargo consolidate its position as an end-to-end logistics solutions provider, catapulting it into the market-leading position in the domestic express logistics segment. The deal will also help it leverage the express logistics business of Gati with Allcargo's logistics courier and parcel logistics business. "It will help us achieve sustainable growth as a leader in the logistics industry in the short, medium and long run, as this acquisition will help it offer single-window solutions through a combination of ECU Worldwide and Gati at a scale that otherwise does not exist now," Shetty said. Founded in 1989, Gati operates on an asset-light and hub-and-spoke model, and is now present in 727 districts and makes door-to-door express logistics delivery across 19,000 PIN codes across the country. The deal had hit a wall after the estranged wife and sons of Gati founder Mahendra Agarwal got an injunction from a local Hyderabad court against the sale and writing to the Sebi on the same. At the enterprise level, the technology is helping firms streamline their operations. Samsung, for example, has plans to expand 5G internet to the daily commute. The firm is currently testing how well the technology will work underground and in rural areas. The South Korean technology giant installed its 5G solutions across the metro network in Seoul in 2021, finalizing the project this year to "deliver seamless connectivity to passengers whether they are underground or on the ground," Joe Walsh, director of B2B at Samsung UK &amp; Ireland, said.With 5G technology, subway commuters benefit from improved download speeds and internet connectivity. Walsh says this redefined mobile experience means passengers can stream TV shows and movies and make video calls while traveling underground. He adds that the company's 5G mmWave technology, designed to transmit large volumes of data with high speed and precision, is being tested to work more accurately in densely populated areas and open venues such as shopping malls and sports stadiums. <h3>Making life easier for drivers</h3>5G has become a crucial part of the transport and logistics industries. Daniel Lloyd, a UK-based delivery driver at courier firm Yodel, relies on 5G to navigate different routes and deliver parcels to customers on time.The company was early to adopt 5G-enabled phones for couriers, which Lloyd said is "the lynchpin between me, the customer, and their delivery."Lloyd joined Yodel in 2012 and has since become an avid user of the company's driver app. Introduced in 2019, the two-way app helps drivers learn their route, upload photos to prove that they've delivered a parcel, and access remote training materials. The app also lets customers track packages from dispatch to delivery. Yodel claims that its software — combined with 5G connectivity — has helped drivers like Lloyd increase productivity by up to an hour each shift. "Knowing that I can do all of this at speed and with no connectivity blackouts, thanks to 5G, means that there is less waiting around, and I can move on to the next delivery almost as soon as I drop a parcel off," Lloyd said. "With accurate route planning as well, 5G has been a game-changer for delivery drivers."Yodel says the app has helped it recruit new drivers and get them on the road in "record time." In 2020 alone, Yodel onboarded 2,000 new drivers and delivered remote training to more than 1,000 people via its driver app. While 5G has supplemented Yodel's logistics operations, other companies' business models rely entirely on it. Halo.Car, a Las Vegas-based company that offers remotely-piloted electric car-sharing service, uses video navigation and sensor data powered by T-Mobile 5G mobile networks to deliver cars to customers without a driver. Antonella Siracusa-Rosa, a remote pilot at Halo.Car, delivers cars to customers remotely using this technology. "Uber and Lyft also depend on mobile networks to connect to customers. Halo.Car takes it to another level," Siracusa-Rosa said. "When a customer calls a car, I drive to them, but instead of being inside the car, I'm driving remotely from a nearby office," she explained. "When I get to the customer, they get in the driver's seat. It's a rental, rather than a taxi."Siracusa-Rosa added that Halo.Car feels like the future of driving as a job. "I do more deliveries per day because I 'get out' when the customer gets in and just switch to another car for the next delivery," Siracusa-Rosa said. "I joke that my job is driving cars on the internet." This novel approach to car rentals is aimed at people who don't want to visit a physical garage. "I'm used to being able to get things delivered to me, especially with the pandemic taking everything contactless. But for a car rental, I still had to go to the car or shop and get back home. It's a hassle," Garo Atamian, a Halo.Car customer, said. "Halo.Car delivering the car rather than me having to travel to it is so much easier."<h3>Unlocking new opportunities in the transport sector</h3>Curb Mobility, which provides on-demand taxis across the US, is another transportation company that views 5G connectivity as a prerequisite to its success. Vishal Dhawan, chief product and technology officer at Curb Mobility, explains that 5G helps the company process large amounts of data across an extensive network of vehicles and mobile apps while enabling real-time features. "5G provides unprecedented reliability and low latency to seamlessly track real-time positions from vehicles on a sub-second basis to deliver richer mapping experiences like turn-by-turn navigation and vehicle position tracking," he said.Heightened speed also allows the company to send more information over the network and operate cloud services, enabling "more complex algorithms based on multi-dimensional data sets."The network is giving companies a competitive edge and paving the way for a new generation of products. Jacqueline Davidson, program director at Aerospace Xelerated and principal of global accelerators and innovation programs at Boeing, takes the view that 5G adoption will result in new innovations across the industry.One of the biggest impacts of this technology will be greater autonomy for transport and logistics companies. "I see this opportunity by providing more accurate real-time data making it easier for assets to communicate with one another or even the infrastructure around them," Davidson said. "We will see an increase in all forms of autonomy (from transportation, individual tasks, to even new industries being created) because of the scalability and flexibility of 5G solutions."Although 5G offers massive potential for transport and logistics firms, Davidson urges companies to continue testing other products, services, and solutions as 5G evolves."Only through ample data, testing, and observability will consumers begin to adopt autonomy into their day-to-day," Davidson said. She added that 5G might not be "the ultimate solution" for now, but it will "undoubtedly open up opportunities" in even more ways as research and implementations progress.

Tokyo, June 27 (IANS) Hitachi and Microsoft have announced a multi-year strategic alliance to accelerate the digital transformation of the manufacturing and logistics industries across Southeast Asia, North America and Japan. Hitachi will integrate its industry-leading solutions such as Lumada, and its Internet of Things (IoT)-ready industrial controllers HX Series, with the Microsoft cloud platform, leveraging Azure, Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365 to help businesses increase their workforce productivity and operational efficiency. The first joint solutions will be available in Thailand in July, the companies said in a statement. Hitachi, Microsoft ink multi-year deal to boost digital transformation

New Delhi, Nov 23 () Loanzen, a start-up that provides financial solutions to logistics industry, on Sunday said it has raised funding from Zephyr Peacock India Growth Fund.
 However, it didn't disclose the funding amount.
 Existing investor Kae Capital also participated in the round, a statement said.
 "Loanzen will invest the funds raised in development of technology, build data analytics teams, scale operations in existing locations across Karnataka and expand to new markets," it added.
 While Loanzen declined to comment on the amount of funding or valuation, sources suggest the company has raised about USD 4-5 million (about Rs 28-35 crore) in this round.
 Zephyr Peacock India Growth Fund is a private equity fund investing in small and medium enterprises in India.
 Loanzen provides loans to purchasers of used commercial vehicles, including operators of small CV fleets and first-time buyers. These purchasers have limited financing options due to inadequate credit history and lack of documented income. 
 It uses proprietary underwriting processes based on alternate data sources to meet the needs of its customer segment.
 "Given the rapid growth in the logistics segment with increasing penetration of technology, we are looking to scale up over the coming year...We are planning to target a Rs 75-80 crore loan book addressing a base of over 2,000 customers in the coming year," Loanzen co-founder Madhu Sudhan said.
 Headquartered in Bengaluru, the company is currently serving customers in Karnataka and plans to expand to other states in south India in the coming months.
 Abhijeet Kudva, Managing Director at Zephyr Peacock, said Loanzen's loans have helped over 500 drivers and vehicle operators already.
 "We expect Loanzen to become a leader in logistics financing, supporting over 15,000 customers in the next three to five years," he added. SR RVK
