Pat Toomey. He joins the race alongside 27 other candidates: 12 Republicans, 14 Democrats, and a Libertarian."Why would [the Inquirer] not want to call me Dr. Oz? Everyone knows I'm Dr. Oz, but they don't think it's the right thing to do. They think it gives me an unfair advantage," Oz said.While Oz lambasted the local newspaper for dropping his doctor title, the practice is standard in newsrooms that follow the Associated Press Stylebook, an American English grammar style and usage guide created by journalists working for or connected with the Associated Press.Oz is also not the only doctor vying for Toomey's Senate seat. It will field Dr Kamlesh Singh from the Naugawan Sadat assembly seat and Sushil Chaudhary from the the Bulandshahr seat. The party has named Snehlata for the Tundla seat and Kripa Shankar for the Ghatampur seat. In Deoria, the Congress has fielded Mukund Bhaskar Mani Tripathi. Party sources said that the remaining two candidates for Bangarmau and Malhani will be announced later. Congress names five candidates for UP bypolls — two more to be announced later

New Delhi, Jan 15 () Some senior Congress leaders who unsuccessfully contested the last year's Lok Sabha elections may find their names in the party's list of candidates for the Delhi assembly polls. Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra said the party will field its "best" candidates in the elections for the 70 Assembly seats in Delhi scheduled for February 8. In a meeting with senior leaders of Delhi unit, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday suggested that those active in electoral politics should contest the Assembly polls. The meeting was attended by many senior leaders including former Delhi Congress presidents Ajay Maken, JP Agarwal and Arvinder Lovely, and working president Rajesh Lilothia, all four of whom were fielded by the party in the Lok Sabha polls. Agarwal said that he will follow instructions of the party chief. "There is no reason why we should not do what Congress chief desires us to do," he said. Agarwal was a runner-up in the Lok Sabha election from Chandni Chowk. He was also a former MLA from the Chandni Chowk Assembly segment. Lilothia, too, expressed his willingness to contest the Assembly election as per directions of Gandhi. During the meeting with the Congress chief, he had offered himself to be fielded against Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Kejriwal in New Delhi seat. Congress sources said that Lovely too was inclined to contest the polls as demanded by the party high command. Lovely was not available for his comments. He was defeated from East Delhi Lok Sabha seat by BJP's Gautam Gambhir. Maken is also expected to follow suit although he had some "reservations" on fighting the Assembly polls. He was a runner up in New Delhi parliamentary seat in elections last year. The central election committee of Congress is likely to meet on Thursday to discuss the names of party candidates for the Assembly elections. The ruling AAP on Tuesday declared all its 70 candidates. The BJP is also expected to announce its candidates for the polls in next few days.

AAP names Bhagwant Mann as Punjab CM candidate

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, party leader Ashish Shelar and Maharashtra <keyword id="19894848" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bjp" source="keywords">BJP</keyword> president Chandrashekhar Bawankule were also present at the occasion. According to sources, Ashok Chavan is likely to be BJP's Rajya Sabha candidate from Maharashtra putting Congress in a tight spot. Ashok Chavan resgined from the primary membership of the Congress party on Monday. Chavan submitted his resignation to Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Nana Patole. "I have resigned from the Assembly membership as an MLA. I have given my resignation to the Speaker. I have resigned from the Congress Working Committee and the Congress primary membership," Chavan told reporters after resigning from Congress on Monday. Ashok Chavan was the Vice President and General Secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress Committee from 1986 to 1995. He served the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for three terms, starting in 1999 and ending in May 2014. He served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra State from December 8, 2008, to November 9, 2010. On November 9, 2010, the Congress Party asked him to resign from office over corruption allegations relating to the Adarsh Housing Society scam. In the 2014 general elections, Chavan was elected from the Nanded constituency but lost the seat in 2019 Pratap Patil Chikhalikar of the BJP. He is the third big name to desert the Congress ship in Maharashtra. First to go was former South Mumbai MP Milind Deora, followed by former MLA Baba Siddique. (ANI)
