Synology introduces new products aimed at data protection and scalability

The Arm Neoverse CSS is designed to meet AI applications' performance and efficiency needs in the data centre, infrastructure systems, telecommunications, and beyond. “We will be working closely with Arm as we expand our footprint into data centres, utilising our expertise in hybrid computing, AI, SerDes and chipsets, and advance packaging technologies to accelerate AI innovation from the edge to the cloud,” said Vince Hu, Corporate Vice President, MediaTek. MediaTek intends to use Neoverse CSS with its SoC integration design capability to deliver differentiated solutions and expedite time to market. Computex 2024: MediaTek joins Arm Total Design as it looks to boost AI innovation

"About my size," he joked from the stage at <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jensen-huang-robots-r2d2-c3po-star-wars-nvidia-2024-9">Computex 2024</a> in Taipei, Taiwan, in June."Robotics is here. Physical AI is here. This is not science fiction," he said. The robots though, were flat, generated on a massive screen. What came onto the stage were wheeled machines resembling <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doordash-delivery-robots-starship-technologies-2017-3">delivery robots</a>.Robots are a big part of Huang's vision of the future, which is shared by other tech luminaries, including <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-says-two-optimus-humanoid-robots-working-in-factory-autonomously-2024-6">Elon Musk</a>. In addition to the Computex display, humanoid robots have come up on Nvidia's last two <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jensen-huang-robots-r2d2-c3po-star-wars-nvidia-2024-9">earnings calls</a>.Most analysts agree that Nvidia's fate is all but sealed for a few years. Demand for graphics processing units has fueled it to a<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-ai-3-trillion-club-apple-microsoft-jensen-huang-2024-6"> $3 trillion market capitalization</a> — some days. But the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-taiwan-china-chip-war-2024-6">semiconductor industry is cruel.</a> Investment in data centers, which make up 87% of Nvidia's revenue comes in booms and busts. Nvidia needs another big market.At Computex, Huang said there would be two "high-volume" robotic products in the future. The first is self-driving cars and the second is likely to be humanoid robots. Thanks to machine learning the technologies are converging.Both machines require human-like perception of fast-changing surroundings and instantaneous reactions with little room for error. They also both require immense amounts of what Huang sells: AI computing power. But robotics is a tiny portion of Nvidia's revenue today. And growing it isn't just a matter of time.If Nvidia's place in the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-ai-3-trillion-club-apple-microsoft-jensen-huang-2024-6">tech stratosphere</a> is to be permanent, Huang needs the market for robotics to be big. Though the story of Nvidia's last few years has been one of incredible engineering, foresight, and timing, the challenge to make robots real may be even tougher.<h2 id="48af91f2-ff7b-4976-9a95-fea6d922ba9f">How can Nvidia bring on the robots?</h2>AI presents a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vcs-like-khosla-and-a16z-backing-robotics-that-use-ai-2024-7">massive unlock for robotics.</a> But scaling the field means making the engineering and building more accessible."Robotic AI is the most complicated because a large language model is software, but robots are a mechanical engineering problem, a software problem, and a physics problem. It's much more complicated," said <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-data-center-demand-nvidia-databank-2024-8">Raul Martynek</a>, CEO of data center landlord Databank.Most of the people working on robotics are experts with doctoral degrees in robotics because they have to be. The same was true of language-based AI 10 years ago. Now that foundation models and computing to support them are widely available, it doesn't take a doctorate to build AI applications.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-cuda-software-gpu-ai-chips-cerebras-ipo-2024-6#:~:text=Since%20CUDA%20is%20perhaps%20the,Nvidia%20is%20worth%20the%20fight.">Layers of software</a> and vast language and image libraries are intended to make users stickier and lower the barrier to entry so that almost anyone can build with AI.Nvidia's robotics stack needs to do the same, but since using AI in physical spaces is harder, making it work for laymen is also harder.The Nvidia robotics stack takes some navigating. It's a sea of platforms, libraries, and names.Omniverse is a simulation platform. It offers a virtual world that developers can customize and use to test simulations of robots. "Isaac" is what Nvidia calls a "gym" built on top of Omniverse. It's how you put your robot into an environment and practice tasks."Jetson Thor" is Nvidia's chip for powering robots. Project Groot, which the company refers to as a "moonshot" initiative, is a foundation model for humanoid robots. In July, the company launched a synthetic data generation service and "<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-accelerates-worldwide-humanoid-robotics-development">Osmo</a>," a software layer that ties it all together.Huang often touts that humanoids are easier to build because the world is already made for humans."The easiest robot to adapt in the world are humanoid robots because we built the world for us," he said at Computex. "There's more data to train these robots because we have the same physique," Huang said.Gathering data about how we move still takes time, effort, and money. Tesla, for example, is paying people $48 per hour to perform tasks in a special suit to train its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-job-training-optimus-robot-motion-capture-suit-2024-8">humanoid, Optimus</a>."That's been the biggest problem in robotics — how much data is needed to give those foundational models an understanding of the world and adjust for it," said <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-this-engineer-hacked-her-career-and-became-a-gm-at-microsoft-2018-2">Sophia Velastegui</a>, an AI expert who's worked for Apple, Google, and Microsoft.But, analysts see the potential. Research firm William Blair's analysts recently wrote, "Nvidia's capabilities in robotics and digital twins (with Omniverse) have the potential to scale into massive businesses themselves." The analysts expect Nvidia's automotive business to grow 20% annually through 2027.Nvidia has announced that BMW uses Isaac and Omniverse to train factory robots. Boston Dynamics, BYD Electronics, Figure, Intrinsic, Siemens, and Teradyne Robotics use Nvidia's stack to build robot arms, humanoids, and other robots.But three robotics experts told Business Insider that so far, Nvidia has failed to lower the barrier to entry for want-to-be robot builders as it has in language and image-based AI. Competitors are coming in to try to open up the ideal stack for robotics before Nvidia can dominate that too."We recognize that developing AI that can interact with the physical world is extremely challenging. That's why we developed an entire platform to help companies train and deploy robots," a Nvidia spokesperson told Business Insider via email.In July, the company launched a humanoid robot developer program. After submitting a successful application developers can access all of these tools.<h2 id="54d5849a-4e51-475e-b8c8-bccca9f22c1e">Nvidia can't do it alone</h2>Ashish Kapoor is acutely aware of all the progress the field has yet to make. For 17 years he was a leader in Microsoft's robotics research department. There, he helped to develop Airsim, a computer vision simulation platform launched in 2017 that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-shutters-project-airsim-ai-strategy-openai-2023-10">sunsetted last year</a>.Kapoor left with the shutdown to make his own platform. Last year, he founded Scaled Foundations and launched Grid, a robotic development platform designed for aspiring robot builders.No one company can solve the tough problems of robotics alone, Kapoor said."The way I've seen it happen in AI, the actual solution came from the community when they worked on something together. That's when the magic started to happen, and this needs to happen in robotics right now," Kapoor said.It feels like every player aiming for humanoid robots is in it for themselves, Kapoor said. But, there's a robotics startup graveyard for a reason. The robots get into real-world scenarios and they are simply not good enough. Customers give up on them before they can get better."The running joke is that every robot has a team of 10 people trying to run it," Kapoor said.Grid offers a free tier or a managed service that offers more help. Scaled Foundations is building its own foundation model for robotics, but also encourages users to develop one too.Some elements of Nvidia's robotics stack are open source. And Huang often touts that Nvidia is working with every robotics and AI company on the planet, but some developers fear the juggernaut will protect its own success first, and support the ecosystem second."They're doing the Apple effect. To me, they're trying to lock you in as much as they can into their ecosystem," said Jonathan Stephens, chief developer advocate at computer vision firm EveryPoint.An Nvidia spokesperson told BI that this perception is inaccurate. The company "collaborates with the majority of the leading players in the robotics and humanoid developer ecosystem," to help them deploy robots faster. "Our success comes from the ecosystem," they said. Scaled Foundations and Nvidia aren't the only ones working on a foundation model for robotics. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vcs-like-khosla-and-a16z-backing-robotics-that-use-ai-2024-7">Skild AI </a>raised $300 million in July to build its version.<h2 id="973ca613-a524-4878-942d-bb11cf703d83">What makes a humanoid?</h2>Simulators are an essential stop on the path to humanoid robots, but they don't necessarily lead to human-like perception.When describing a robotic arm at Computex, Huang said that Nvidia supplies "the computer, the acceleration layers, and the pre-trained AI models" needed to put an AI robot into an AI factory. The goal of using robotic arms in factories at scale has been around for decades. Robotic arms have been <a target="_blank" href="https://spectrum.ieee.org/unimation-robot">building cars since 1961</a>. But Huang was talking about an AI robot — an intelligent robot.The arms that build cars are largely unintelligent. They are programmed to perform repetitive tasks and often "see" with sensors instead of cameras.An AI-enabled robotic arm would be able to handle varied tasks — picking up diverse items and putting them down in diverse places without breaking them, maybe while on the move. They need to be able to perceive objects and guardrails and then make moves in a coherent order. But a humanoid robot is a world away from even the most useful non-humanoid. Some roboticists doubt that it's the right target to aim for."I'm very skeptical. The cost to make a humanoid robot and to make it versatile is going to be higher than if you make a robot that doesn't look like a human and can only do a single task but does the task well and faster," said a former Nvidia robotics expert with more than 15 years in the field, who asked to remain anonymous.But Huang is all in."I think Jensen has an obsession with robots because, ultimately, what he's trying to do is create the future," Martynek said.Gaming and graphics aren't Nvidia's future anymore. Autonomous cars and robotics are. The company told BI it expects everything to be autonomous in the future starting with robotic arms and vehicles and leading to buildings and even cities."I was at Apple when we developed iPad inspired by Star Trek and other future worlds in movies," Velastegui said. Robotics tap into our imagination, she explained.

The AI boom turned Nvidia into a trillion-dollar giant. Its next big bet is even more complex.

The country's <keyword id="21969771" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="airport-industry" source="keywords">airport industry</keyword> is projected to report a <keyword id="20385116" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="profit-before-tax" source="keywords">profit before tax</keyword> of <keyword id="21969772" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="USD-1-3-billion" source="keywords">USD 1.3 billion</keyword> in the current financial year. The profit is anticipated to be Rs 256.1 (USD 3.1) per passenger in the fiscal ending March 2025, aviation advisory firm CAPA India said while giving projections at its <keyword id="21969773" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aviation-summit" source="keywords">aviation summit</keyword> in the national capital on Friday. In the current fiscal, <keyword id="21969774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="passenger-throughput" source="keywords">passenger throughput</keyword> at Indian airports is estimated to rise to 404.9 million. Out of the total, 81.1 per cent will be domestic and 18.9 per cent will be international traffic, it said. As per the report, the <keyword id="20006900" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airport-Authority-of-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Airport Authority of India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Airport Authority of India">Airport Authority of India</keyword>'s (AAI) profitability is likely to remain robust in FY2024 and FY2025. "The topline will grow due to an increase in aeronautical revenue along with the receipt of revenue share from the recently privatised six non-metro airports, without having to incur any expense associated with it - resulting in higher profitability," it added. The industry's profit before tax is expected to be USD 1.3 billion in this fiscal. "India's airport operators are forecast to register Rs 359.8 billion (USD 4.3 billion) in revenue for FY2025, representing a growth of 14.8 per cent y-o-y from FY2024," CAPA India said. Noting that airport infrastructure at metros and non-metros is ahead of demand, it said there is an ongoing USD 11 billion pipeline of investment, including in Tier 2 and Tier 3 airports. Talking about the launch, Arnold Su, Vice President, Consumer and Gaming PC, System Business Group, Asus India, said, “Following the ROG Ally launch last year, we are excited to unveil the ROG Ally X in India. Building on valuable feedback from the Ally community, the Ally X brings numerous enhancements. While retaining its iconic design, the Ally X features a refined ergonomic design with improved input points for a more responsive and comfortable experience. As pioneers in gaming innovation, ASUS ROG has always been committed to delivering cutting-edge technology and exceptional performance. We are confident that the Ally X will continue to set benchmarks in the gaming industry, enhancing the gaming journey for players across India.” The device is available at a starting price of Rs 89,990. This is a special price being offered as the device’s MRP, as per Asus’ website, is Rs 1,07,990. Thus, the ROG Ally X is costlier than its predecessor. To recall, the ROG Ally launched in India for Rs 69,990 in July last year. Talking about the ROG Ally X’s availability, gamers can purchase the device from various platforms, including the Asus ROG Store, Eshop, Flipkart, and Amazon. <h2>Asus ROG Ally X: Top specs and features</h2>The ROG Ally X features a familiar design and weighs 678 grams. There are console-like controllers on either sides of the device and a 7-inch screen in the middle. The device is powered by the AMD Z1 Extreme CPU processor, complemented by the Radeon 780M iGPU with 12 Compute Units, promising great graphical power and optimization. The device boasts an upgraded 80Wh battery for extended gaming sessions and comes equipped with a full-sized 1TB 2280 M.2 NVME Gen 4 SSD, expandable up to 4TB. Additionally, it features 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM running at 7500MT/s, promising a smooth and responsive gaming experience. In terms of display, the device comes with a full HD 1080p display paired with a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits brightness. Asus ROG Ally X is now in India: Price, features and all you need to know

In a bid to bolster the safety and security of <keyword id="19989657" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-payments" source="keywords">digital payments</keyword> and enhance regulatory frameworks, the Reserve Bank of India (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) unveiled a series of proposals aimed at fostering innovation, inclusivity, and efficiency in the financial ecosystem. These initiatives, announced by RBI Governor <keyword id="19913110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shaktikanta-das" source="keywords">Shaktikanta Das</keyword>, signify the central bank's commitment to fortifying India's digital infrastructure and promoting a conducive environment for financial transactions. One of the key announcements made by Governor Das pertained to the establishment of a Digital Payments <keyword id="21971766" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="intelligence-platform" source="keywords">Intelligence Platform</keyword>. This platform, leveraging advanced technologies, aims to mitigate payment <keyword id="19898489" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fraud" source="keywords">fraud</keyword> risks and enhance the safety of digital transactions. According to the annual report released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on May 30, there was a significant surge in the number of financial frauds reported by banks, increasing by 166 per cent year-on-year in the financial year 2023-24 to reach 36,075 cases. This figure starkly contrasts with the 13,564 cases reported in the previous fiscal year, FY23. Despite the notable rise in the number of fraud cases, there was a substantial decrease in the total amount involved in these incidents. The amount of money associated with total bank frauds plummeted by 46.7 per cent year-on-year in the financial year 2023-24, totaling Rs 13,930 crore. In comparison, the amount recorded in FY23 stood at Rs 26,127 crore. RBI has proposed a revision of the limit of bulk deposits for Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) and Small Finance Banks (SFBs). This move, aimed at enhancing flexibility and aligning with evolving market dynamics, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the banking sector. Currently, banks have the discretion to offer differential rates of interest on bulk deposits based on their requirements and Asset-Liability Management (ALM) projections. The existing bulk deposit limit for SCBs (excluding Regional Rural Banks) and SFBs, set at 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 2 crore and above,' was established in 2019. However, following a comprehensive review, the RBI has proposed to revise this definition to 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 3 crore and above' for SCBs and SFBs. In addition to the proposed revision for SCBs and SFBs, the RBI has also suggested defining the bulk deposit limit for Local Area Banks (LABs) as 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 1 crore and above,' mirroring the criteria applicable to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs). RBI has also unveiled plans to rationalize export and import regulations under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999. This initiative, driven by the imperative of progressive liberalization and operational flexibility, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for international trade and investment. By eliminating redundancies, enhancing clarity, and reducing procedural complexities, the RBI aims to promote ease of doing business for all stakeholders involved in cross-border trade. The RBI aims to streamline and simplify operational procedures related to export and import transactions, thereby reducing administrative burdens and enhancing efficiency for businesses and authorized dealer banks. By aligning regulations with international best practices and market realities, the RBI seeks to create a business-friendly environment conducive to fostering trade and investment growth. Simplified regulations will facilitate smoother trade transactions, encouraging businesses to explore new markets and expand their global footprint. While promoting ease of doing business, the RBI remains committed to ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and safeguarding the integrity of the financial system. The proposed rationalization will uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and risk management in cross-border transactions. As part of the process, the RBI plans to publish draft regulations and directions on its official website by the end of June 2024. In a bid to enhance the convenience and efficiency of digital payments, RBI has unveiled plans to expand the e-mandate framework to include recurring payments for Fastag, National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), and similar services. This initiative, aimed at modernizing payment systems and promoting financial inclusion, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering innovation and leveraging technology to meet evolving consumer needs. The current UPI Lite service permits customers to load their UPI Lite wallets with up to Rs 2000/- and conduct transactions of up to Rs 500 from the wallet. To enhance the seamless usage of UPI Lite for customers, and in response to feedback from various stakeholders, it is suggested to integrate UPI Lite into the e-mandate framework. This integration would introduce an auto-replenishment feature for UPI Lite wallets, automatically refilling the wallet balance when it falls below a predetermined threshold set by the customer. Since the funds remain under the customer's control (transferring from their account to the wallet), it is proposed to eliminate the need for additional authentication or pre-debit notifications. Relevant guidelines pertaining to this proposal will be issued shortly. RBI has embarked on a mission to foster innovation and transformation in the financial sector with the launch of its third edition of the global hackathon, "HARBINGER 2024 - Innovation for Transformation." It would feature two primary themes: 'Zero Financial Frauds' and 'Being Divyang Friendly.' Solutions aimed at bolstering the safety and security of digital transactions, with a specific emphasis on identifying, preventing, and combating financial frauds, will be solicited. Additionally, there will be a focus on fostering inclusivity for individuals with physical disabilities. Further details regarding the hackathon will be unveiled shortly. RBI announces digital payments intelligence platform to check online frauds

Chipmaker <keyword id="20004922" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AMD" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="AMD" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="AMD">AMD</keyword> is poised to power the surging demand for <keyword id="21517898" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AI-compute" source="keywords">AI compute</keyword> with its wide range of product portfolio, the company's Chief <keyword id="19901571" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="technology" source="keywords">Technology</keyword> Officer Mark Papermaster said on Friday. AI compute refers to processing of data using artificial intelligence or machine learning algorithms. Marking 55 years of AMD (Advanced Micro Devices), Papermaster in a blog post looked back on five years of growth and innovations at the company, while also looking ahead to the next five years. He said the future of technology will be born from open ecosystems and deep industry partnerships that drive true innovation. "We're in a unique position to power increased demand for AI compute based on our broad portfolio of compute engines, deep relationships with customers across a diverse set of markets, and open software capabilities. We have a strong foundation of <keyword id="20053383" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-centre" source="keywords">data centre</keyword> products and customer collaboration across cloud and enterprise, and leadership products for AI PCs," he wrote. He said AMD has shifted from unique product silos to a modular IP portfolio, connected by a single AI software stack for easy deployment, and called it a 'holistic design approach'. "We need to speed our development by using more AI applications in our internal workflows to boost our productivity...We look forward to discovering new methods to optimise efficiency and experiment with new technologies that have potential," he said, adding that AI is poised to become more ubiquitous and consequential than the advent of the Internet. Papermaster further said that AMD will make some 'exciting' announcements at Computex (Taipei), an annual computer exhibition set to be held in June this year. Looking back, he said, "We made the call over a decade ago to leverage our strength and heritage in high-performance computing and invest for the future. Those bets have paid off as all our markets now demand the utmost in compute efficiency (performance per Watt of energy expended), and AI enablement. "...Our growth hasn't come overnight. AMD technology powers the daily lives of billions of people around the world, and in the last five years we've expanded the number of markets we serve." He said that the IT corporation has steadily increased investments in research and development for the past five years to be in line with the growing demand for compute performance and efficiency. "...Our research and development investment has nearly quadrupled, from USD 1.5 billion in 2019, to USD 5.9 billion in 2023, and we plan to continue to invest in developing groundbreaking technologies that show early promise," he said. He added that since 2019, AMD and the <keyword id="20149900" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="semiconductor-industry" source="keywords">semiconductor industry</keyword> have grown tremendously. "Global sales of semiconductors grew from USD 412.3 billion in 2019 to USD 574.1 billion in 2022, and are estimated to grow to USD 1 trillion by 2030," he said, adding that AMD is positioned to service the insatiable demand for more computing capacity. He said the company's headcount has more than doubled in the past five years. "Xilinx was the largest semiconductor acquisition when completed in 2022 adding incredible talent, leadership IP, and market expansion to adaptive compute markets with deep customer relationships," he said. Earlier this month, AMD posted its revenue at USD 5.47 billion (about Rs 45.6 crore) for the first quarter of 2024, up 2 per cent against the year-ago period. "AMD started the year strong, delivering record quarterly data centre segment revenue," AMD's EVP, CFO and Treasurer Jean Hu had said. "In addition, we drove solid gross margin expansion. Moving forward, we are well positioned to continue driving revenue growth and margin improvement while investing in the large AI opportunities ahead."
