New Delhi, Ed-tech titan <keyword id="3320944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Byjus" source="Orion">Byjus</keyword> is looking to sell its overseas ventures Epic and Great Learning to pay back its entire USD 1.2 billion (Rs 9,956 crore) loan to lenders, a source familiar with the matter said. The ed-tech decacorn has been in discussions with the lenders and has made a proposal to clear its Term B loan, the source said. Byju's hopes to garner between USD 800 million to USD 1 billion from the sale of Epic, the US-based kids learning firm, and Great Learning - the upskilling platform. The firm is also working on raising fresh capital from equity sales, and is working with bankers for the sale of the aforementioned key assets to strategic investors -- which has also garnered interest, the source said. An email sent to the ed-tech platform for comments remained unanswered. India's most-valued startup is hoping to repay the entire USD 1.2 billion term loan B (TLB) in under six months. Of this, it is proposing to repay USD 300 million in the next three months. Lenders have not yet responded to the proposal. Byju's in November 2021 raised USD 1.2 billion in debt through a term loan facility (TLB) from a group of overseas investors. A TLB is a type of senior secured syndicated credit facility that is issued by global institutional investors. Typically, the proceeds from a TLB are used to either refinance an existing debt or to make overseas acquisitions in order to enhance a company's offerings. Byju's had acquired Aakash USD 950 million in 2021. In July this year, the steering committee of ad hoc term loan lenders is reported to have agreed to amend the USD 1.2 billion term loan. The development comes after the company formed an advisory council with ex-Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai and Bharatpe Chairman and former SBI chief Rajnish Kumar after the exit of investors G V Ravishankar of Sequoia Capital (now Peak XV Partners), Vivian Wu of Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Russell Dreisenstock of Prosus. Byjus had acquired Epic in a USD 500 million cash-and-stock deal in May 2022.

TVS Motor logs 17.5% sales growth in December

Iran ready to sign military and security agreements with Gulf states

Over the latest fortnight, December 16-31, 2020, these schemes received ₹1,213 crore. Further, five out of the six schemes have already turned and have close to ₹8,527 crore available to return to unit holders, subject to fund running expenses. <keyword id="251037" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Franklin">Franklin</keyword> India Short Term Income Plan (FISTIP) is the latest scheme to turn cash positive, the fund house said in a statement. The fund house said that as directed by the top court, redemptions in these schemes will continue to be suspended till the date of the next hearing scheduled in the third week of January 2021. Franklin Templeton's shut funds receive ₹13,120 crore from maturities, pre-payments and coupons

Australia will participate in the <keyword id="2438987" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Malabar-naval-exercise">Malabar naval exercise</keyword>, involving the United States, Japan and India, to bring the four key partners in the Indo-Pacific region together next month, according to a statement issued by the Australian government. In a significant move that comes amid a Sino-India border row, India on Monday announced Australia's participation in the upcoming <keyword id="2426742" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Malabar-exercise">Malabar exercise</keyword> along with the US and Japan, effectively making it the first military-level engagement between the four-member nation grouping -- the Quad. The invitation by India to the Australian navy for the exercise next month came two weeks after the foreign ministers of the Quad held extensive talks in Tokyo with a focus on enhancing their cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, a region that has been witnessing increasing Chinese military assertiveness. Issuing the joint statement with Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds, Foreign Minister Marise Payne said that the announcement was another important step in Australia's deepening relationship with India. The federal government said that following an invitation from India, Australia will participate in the Malabar exercise. The exercise will bring together four key regional defence partners India, Japan, the United States and Australia in November, it said. Reynolds said Malabar-2020 marked a milestone opportunity for the Australian Defence Force (ADF). "High-end military exercises like MALABAR are key to enhancing Australia's maritime capabilities, building interoperability with our close partners, and demonstrating our collective resolve to support an open and prosperous Indo-Pacific," Reynolds said. Foreign Minister Payne said that the Malabar exercise also "showcases the deep trust between four major Indo-Pacific democracies and their shared will to work together on common security interests". "This builds on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, to which Prime Minister (Scott) Morrison and Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi agreed on June 4, 2020, and which I progressed with my counterpart, Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, this month when we met in Tokyo," she said. "It will bolster the ability of India, Australia, Japan and the United States to work together to uphold peace and stability across our region," Payne asserted. Participation in the naval exercise demonstrates Australia's enduring commitment to enhancing regional security, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, and increasing the capability and inter-operability of the ADF, she said. Australia last participated in Exercise MALABAR in 2007. The <keyword id="6355302" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rupee" source="Orion">rupee</keyword> appreciated by 8 paise to close at 81.22 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday on broad dollar weakness after <keyword id="9106308" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Federal-Reserve-Chairman-Jerome-Powell" source="Orion">Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell</keyword> said the pace of interest rate hikes may slow. Forex traders said <keyword id="441091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-fund-inflows" source="Orion">foreign fund inflows</keyword> and a rally in domestic equities boosted investor sentiments. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 81.08 and touched an intra-day high of 80.98 and a low of 81.32 against the greenback. The local unit finally settled at 81.22, registering a rise of 8 paise over its previous close. On Wednesday, the rupee closed at 81.30 against the US dollar, on month-end exporter dollar selling and MSCI rebalancing related inflows. "The Indian rupee started the new month on a front foot following stronger Asian currencies and risk-on sentiments. "It has gained in three out of the last four days as the dollar index slipped to a three-month low after Fed Chair Jerome Powell confirmed the pace of interest rates set to slow along with China easing the COVID restrictions," said Dilip Parmar, Research Analyst, HDFC Securities. Parmar further noted that in the near-term, spot USDINR has support at 80.72, the 100 days simple moving average and resistance at 81.91, the recent swing high formed on November 21. The bias remains bearish for the pair as long as it trades below 82.10. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, slipped 0.41 per cent to 105.51. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures declined 0.10 per cent to USD 86.88 per barrel. On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex advanced 184.54 points or 0.29 per cent to end at 63,284.19, while the broader NSE Nifty gained 54.15 points or 0.29 per cent to 18,812.50. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Wednesday as they purchased shares worth Rs 9,010.41 crore, according to exchange data. The three-member panel comprises senior party leaders Ahmed Patel, <keyword id="12587" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Priyanka-Gandhi">Priyanka Gandhi</keyword> and K.C. Venugopal. Following the meeting, Pilot stressed that his fight was ideological and not personal. "Since the past few days, some MLAs were in Delhi, there were some issues of the state which we wanted to highlight and I have done that by raising the issues clearly. I have been saying since the beginning that all these things were based on principles. I always thought these things are essential to be raised in the party's interest," he told mediapersons. Pilot also said that he believed that all these issues will be resolved after Sonia Gandhi heard all their concerns and the governance issues that they had raised. He also welcomed the formation of the three-member committee. "I heard a lot of things. I was surprised by a few things that were said. I think we should always maintain restraint and humility. The IPO of the internet company will open on November 1 and close on November 3 with a price band of ₹940-₹980 per share. The issue size of the IPO is ₹5,709 crore consisting of a fresh issue of ₹3,759 crore and an offer for sale of ₹1,959 crore by its existing shareholders. Promoters selling share in the IPO include SVF Python II (Cayman) selling shares worth ₹1,875 crore, Yashish Dahiya -- the chief executive of PolicyBazaar -- worth ₹30 crore, Alok Bansal worth ₹12.75 crore, Shikha Dahiya worth ₹12.50 crore and Rajendra Singh Kuhar worth ₹3.50 crore. In addition, Founders United Trust will sell around 2.68 lakh shares, which aggregates to over ₹26 crore on the upper price band. PB Fintech has built two of the largest platforms for insurance and lending products through PolicyBazaar and PaisaBazaar. India’s largest online insurance aggregator, PolicyBazaar, was launched in 2008. It is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the boom in India’s insurance sector as a market leader in selling insurance online. PolicyBazaar is one among a slew of tech IPOs to hit the Indian exchanges this year. It is also one of the country’s top fintech startups ⁠— the other one being Paytm ⁠— going for a public issue soon. 95% of PolicyBazaar’s revenue comes from commissions from insurance companies on selling policies. "The surge will continue and we may see more than 1,000 cases daily by August end. The transmission rate would peak in October," he explained. Experts cited three main reasons behind the spike -- rainy season, negligence of safety protocol and delay in <keyword id="7313056" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Contact-tracing">contact tracing</keyword>. However, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr <keyword id="150731" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajendra-Prasad-Singh">Rajendra Prasad Singh</keyword> denied laxity in contact tracing. "More cases are being detected because we have doubled our testing capacity to 5,000 daily which is double in comparison to July," he said. King George's Medical Unit, medicine head and in charge of Covid unit, <keyword id="9744414" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="prof-virendra-atam">Prof Virendra Atam</keyword> said, "I see people across the city crowding markets without social distancing and masks.
