According to respective company sources, Biological E is holding 200 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine <keyword id="11370342" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="corbevax" source="Orion">Corbevax</keyword> while Bharat Biotech is sitting on a stockpile of 50 million doses of Covaxin. Dr Vikram Paradkar, Executive Vice President (Manufacturing), Biological E, said the firm produced about 30 crore doses of Corbevax in total, abiding by the vaccine manufacturing commitment to the Central government. In March '22, Biological E successfully supplied 10 crore doses to the government. "Currently, we have approximately 20 crore (200 million) doses that are fully tested and ready for supply, as and when we receive orders. Additionally, we manufactured 20 crore doses equivalent of the antigen which will help us ramp up the manufacturing of the Corbevax finished product quickly," Paradkar told PTI. The vaccine has been developed by Biological E in collaboration with Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development (Texas Children's CVD) and Baylor College of Medicine (Baylor) in Houston, Texas, USA. He further said Biological E can begin with the additional vaccine supplies within eight weeks of future orders and can manufacture and supply approximately 10 crore doses of Corbevax on a monthly basis as per its qualified manufacturing capacity. Bharat Biotech sources said the vaccine maker has more than 50 million doses of Covaxin readily available in vials, and over 200 million doses as drug substance. "Additional production capacity is also available to meet product demand," they said adding fresh stocks of the vaccine are available and ready for supplies. Covaxin, India's indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, was developed in collaboration with the <keyword id="6364555" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-council-of-medical-research" source="Orion">Indian Council of Medical Research</keyword> (ICMR) - National Institute of Virology (NIV). Due to lack of product demand, production stoppage of Covaxin was initiated earlier this year and also the 50 million doses in vials are set to expire during early 2023, resulting in losses to the company, sources had earlier said. Biological E, Bharat Biotech together sitting on stockpile of 250 million COVID vaccine doses

Limited, whose <keyword id="11370342" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="corbevax" source="Orion">Corbevax</keyword> on Tuesday received the approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI), plans to produce 75 million doses per month and anticipates over 100 million doses per month from February 2022. The Hyderabad-based company said these capacities will enable it to deliver 300 million doses as promised to the Government of India. Soon, the company plans to deliver more than one billion additional doses globally. Corbevax, India's first indigenously developed protein sub-unit vaccine against Covid-19, has been developed by Biological E in collaboration with Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development (Texas Children's CVD) and Baylor College of Medicine (Baylor) in Houston, Texas. The vaccine will be effective both in scale and affordability, providing sustainable access to low-and middle-income countries, the vaccine maker said. "Our scientists at Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine are thrilled to help in the development of this vaccine, possibly the first Covid vaccine specifically designed for global health," said Dr. Peter Hotez, professor and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor and co-director of the Texas Children's Hospital Centre for Vaccine Development. "Over the years, we have worked to make quality vaccines and pharmaceutical products accessible to families around the world. With this as our backdrop, we resolved to develop an affordable and effective Covid-19 vaccine. It has now become a reality," said Mahima Datla, Managing Director, Biological E. Limited. Corbevax has completed two Phase III clinical trials involving more than 3,000 subjects between the ages of 18 and 80 at 33 study sites across India. The vaccine was found to be safe, well tolerated and immunogenic. Corbevax is a "recombinant protein sub-unit" vaccine, developed from the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein on the virus's surface combined with Dynavax's CpG 1018 adjuvant with alum, which helps the body build the immune response against the virus. "In the pivotal Phase III study conducted with an endpoint of immunogenic superiority, Corbevax demonstrated superior immune response in comparison with Covishield vaccine when assessed for Neutralising Antibody (nAb) Geometric Mean Titers (GMT) against the Ancestral-Wuhan strain and the globally dominant Delta variant. Corbevax vaccination also generated a significant Th1 skewed cellular immune response," Biological E said. According to the vaccine-maker, Corbevax nAb GMT against Ancestral-Wuhan strain is indicative of vaccine effectiveness of more than 90 per cent for prevention of symptomatic infections based on the Correlates of Protection assessment performed during Moderna and Astra-Zeneca vaccine Phase III studies. Against the Delta strain, it indicates a vaccine effectiveness of more than 80 per cent for the prevention of symptomatic infections based on published studies. While none of the subjects who took Corbevax or Covishield had serious adverse events, Corbevax had 50 per cent fewer adverse events than Covishield. Biological E to produce 100 million doses of Corbevax Covid vaccine from February 2022

Hyderabad, Biological E. Ltd, a Hyderabad-based vaccine and <keyword id="24214" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmaceutical-company">pharmaceutical company</keyword>, and <keyword id="10398356" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-ohio-state-innovation-foundation">the Ohio State Innovation Foundation</keyword> on Tuesday announced an exclusive license agreement for a Covid-19 vaccine technology. The <keyword id="15091" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ohio">Ohio</keyword> State Innovation Foundation has licensed novel live attenuated measles virus vectored vaccine candidates against SARS-CoV-2, which were developed by the <keyword id="10398357" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ohio-state-university-college">Ohio State University College</keyword> of Veterinary Medicine, exclusively to Biological E. BE will be responsible for the evaluation and further development, including the commercialisation of the vaccine candidates. "Translating this vaccine platform into the hands of a global vaccine company for further evaluation and development is a critical step and we are excited that Biological E has taken on this role," said Dr Patrick Green, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, <keyword id="123150" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ohio-State-University">Ohio State University</keyword> College of Veterinary Medicine. The Ohio college team's approach utilises the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein as a target protein for SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidates, generating a series of attenuated recombinant measles viruses (rMeVs) expressing SARS-CoV-2 antigens. All resultant rMeVs, the basis for the vaccine candidates, grow to high virus titer in Vero cells, a WHO-approved cell line for vaccine production. They were also shown to express the recombinant S antigens, a critical step in developing a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. The rMeV-based SARs-CoV-2 vaccine candidates have proceeded through proof-of-concept trials in multiple animal models - demonstrating successful production of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. "BE has been working to develop a safe and effective vaccine for the COVID-19. BE is very happy to help further this innovation and expand that effort," said Mahima Datla, Managing Director, Biological E. Biological E gets license for Ohio varsity's COVID-19 vaccine technology

The Drugs Controller General of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> (DCGI) on Tuesday approved the restricted emergency use authorisation (EUA) to Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for children between the age of 6-12 years, sources said. The <keyword id="704367" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dgci" source="Orion">DGCI</keyword> has asked vaccine manufacturer to submit safety data including the data on adverse event with due analysis every 15 days for the first two months and monthly thereafter upto 5 months, said the source familiar with the development. This development comes after the <keyword id="3923779" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="subject-expert-committee" source="Orion">Subject Expert Committee</keyword> (<keyword id="6362470" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sec" source="Orion">SEC</keyword>) discussed recommendations for the restricted emergency use of Covaxin in children aged between 2-12 years.
