They want to bring these remote areas into the digital era and have already initiated such activities in Chhattisgarh, Injiram and Sukma. In July, it had also launched the first mobile phone tower in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. It also enabled internet facilities, and provided computers to students--a move which was well appreciated by its residents. “Padhega Bastar, tabhi toh badhega Bastar (Education in Bastar will lead to development),” Moses Dhinakaran, Directorate General of CRPF tweeted. The Bastar district in Chhattisgarh is prone to Maoist activities.

 The paramilitary forces have been stepping up efforts to establish digital services in remote naxal areas. It recently provided smart TVs and DTH connections to a girls hostel in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. The CRPF has deployed over <a href="http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2019/jul/21/in-a-first-crpf-to-install-sanitary-pad-dispensers-for-women-in-combat-2007290.html">300,000 personnel</a>, including several employed in conflicted or naxal areas of the country such as Bastar and Jammu and Kashmir.

India’s paramilitary forces organise digital classes in naxal affected areas

There a million polling booths managed by 11 million officers, where as many as 900 million citizens could come to vote. Considering the vast disparity becomes the number of people who will be voting and the number of officials to keep tabs on them, the ECI is using drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) — especially in areas it deemed ‘critical’. So, in areas where there’s normally poor turnout, vulnerability or presence of anti-social elements, the ECI is using drones to make the areas safe.

Drones replace bulky choppers making India's elections fuel efficient

<ul><li><keyword id="68723" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bastar">Bastar</keyword> the most “sensitive” constituency goes into polls today, with 80,000 security personnel guarding the polling booths. </li><li>Just days before the elections, a BJP MLA and four security personnel were killed in a Naxalite attack. </li><li>Both Bihar and Odisha too have been put under high alert.</li></ul>As voting commences in India, security has been tightened in polling booths across the country. But there are some polling booths, which are still marred by the blood stains caused by left-wing extremism. With just one seat to offer in the Lok Sabha, Bastar, <keyword id="45326" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chattisgarh">Chattisgarh</keyword> has 80,000 security personnel guarding the voters. Just days before the polling started, an attack by guerilla attackers in <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/several-killed-including-bjp-mla-bhima-mandavi-in-ied-blast-in-dantewada/article26782767.ece">Dantewada</a>, in the same constituency, killed BJP state legislator, Bheema Mandavi, and four security personnel. The state which has been the hotbed of left-wing extremism, also known as Maoism named after the founder of the Communist Party of China, saw an encounter on April 10, between the police and Naxalites in the Rajnandgaon District in Chattisgarh. Days before the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/elections/lok-sabha-elections-2019/chhattisgarh/news/maoists-ask-voters-in-bastar-to-boycott-polls-support-kashmir-separatism/articleshow/68787718.cms">election</a>, the maoists had also given out handwritten posters to villagers asking them to boycott the elections. The voter turnout in Bastar was 59% in the last general elections five years ago. India’s red corridor reflects the eastern, central and southern districts that have been most affected by the Naxalist-Maoist insurgency. While Bastar is the “most sensitive” constituency voting today, Bihar too has been under high security. Three <a href="https://www.newdelhitimes.com/2-ied-1-local-made-bomb-recovered-in-bihar/">bombs</a> were discovered in Bihar’s Gaya constituency just hours before the polling booths opened. The bombs which were placed near a government school were defused. On March 28, Maoists had also blown up ex-Bihar Legislative Council member Anuj Kumar Singh’s in Gaya, while <a href="https://www.thequint.com/news/politics/maoists-blow-up-ex-bihar-mlcs-house-call-for-poll-ban">asking voters</a> to boycott the elections. Security has also been beefed up in Telangana. In the state alone, over 5,749 polling stations have been marked as highly sensitive. Over <a href="https://www.deccanchronicle.com/nation/current-affairs/100419/70000-cops-to-guard-lok-sabha-elections-in-telangana.html">70,000</a> police forces have been deployed for the polling booths in the state. A similar situation hovers around the state of Odisha, where the <keyword id="7518639" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maoist-Constituencies">maoist constituencies</keyword> including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Gajapati districts have been put under high alert. Elections 2019: These are the constituencies affected by Maoist violence that will vote today

Meet <keyword id="3422364" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Savitri-Kashyap">Savitri Kashyap</keyword>, a young <keyword id="6501319" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tribal-girl">tribal girl</keyword> belonging to a small farmer family from Chhattisgarh’s <keyword id="68723" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bastar">Bastar</keyword> district who has become the talk of the town lately, after she recently cracked the highly-competitive IIT-JEE (Advanced) exam this year. 
 Before we tell you more about her and her feat, it’s important to throw some light on the city she hails from. Just 2 days back, at least 45 Maoists surrendered before police and a total of 240 of them have given up since the start of the year. Living in this place, where crimes like fake encounters, cold-blooded murders, and rapes are rampant, it’s as close as one can get to hell. Maoists here have taken up arms against the government and urge many like <keyword id="166738" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Savitri">Savitri</keyword>’s family to either join them in their violence, or be ready to be tortured or killed. The women are raped at their own will. Fear runs through this society day and night. These extremists are also against any kind of education being given to children, especially if its state-sponsored because their fight is against the government. 
 
In such circumstances, for Savitri to be able to secure an All India Rank of 1135 in one of India’s toughest competitive exam when her family is not financially sound enough to afford her education, is a huge feat. 
 
The humble girl credits her success entirely to the government assistance she received in being able to arrange the resources to study and prepare for the exam. "Had it not been for my teachers, I couldn't have done this," she says. 
 
The government programme she enrolled herself in is called 'Prayas Programme' which was started back in 2010 by the state's tribal welfare department. Students from the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) districts and other tribal areas are kept in tribal hostels in the capital Raipur and are imparted coaching along with the regular studies at the higher secondary level. However, this too didn’t come easy for Savitri, as she had to appear for an entrance exam and qualify it to be able to avail the benefits of the programme. 
 
But, once she got into the program, she could get the books to study and guidance from her school teachers to prepare for the exam. Soon, she became the lone kid from not only Bastar, but Chhattisgarh to crack IIT-JEE (Mains). Time flew, as she continued studying hard with a newer self confidence, only to crack the JEE Advanced as well! 
 Savitri’s father <keyword id="3424524" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahadev-kashyap">Mahadev Kashyap</keyword>, is entirely dependent on his 10 acres of land for providing a basic life to his six daughters and a son. He is a proud father as three of his daughters are already well placed in decent government job, and Savitri is scaling newer heights. 
This little girl has already made her village proud, and dreams to study in IIT Kharagpur.

The <keyword id="884194" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chhattisgarh-tourism-board" source="Orion">Chhattisgarh Tourism Board</keyword> (CTB) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (<keyword id="65866" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="irctc" source="Orion">IRCTC</keyword>) to promote tourist places of the state through the PSU's social media platform, a government official here said. The agreement, signed in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel during the Tourism Conclave organized here by CTB to mark the World Tourism Day, will boost the key sector in the state, he said. Under the MoU, the IRCTC will promote tourist places of <keyword id="43945" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh" source="Orion">Chhattisgarh</keyword> through its social media platform, thereby helping attract travellers from other parts of the country, the official said. Speaking on the occasion, Baghel highlighted the uniqueness of Chhattisgarh's rich culture and history and stressed on the need to showcase them to the world. "Earlier, the mere mention of Chhattisgarh conjured up images of Maoist violence and mineral resources. Tourism in the state was neglected for a long time and even after the formation of the state (in 2000) it could not get due popularity and the focus remained centred on Maoist issues," he said. There was a need to put tourist places of Chhattisgarh on the world tourism map and his government was continuously making efforts in this direction, the chief minister added. Meanwhile, the CM also unveiled a statue of Chendru Mandavi, popularly known as 'tiger boy' from Bastar's Narayanpur district, who gained international fame after starring in the movie "Jungle Saga", directed by noted Swedish filmmaker Arne Sucksdroff in the late 1950s, the official said. Mandavi's grandfather had rescued a tiger cub from jungles and gifted it to him in his childhood. He reared the tiger named Tembu. The Swedish filmmaker had visited Mandavi's village Gadhbengal (Narayanpur district) and made a film on him, he said. Baghel also released a memento of CTB depicting the friendship of Mandavi, who died in 2013, and the tiger. IRCTC enters into agreement to promote tourist spots of Chhattisgarh

Four <keyword id="6354354" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crpf" source="Orion">CRPF</keyword> personnel were killed and three others injured after their colleague opened fire at them in a camp of the paramilitary force in <keyword id="43945" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chhattisgarh" source="Orion">Chhattisgarh</keyword>'s <keyword id="6363596" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sukma" source="Orion">Sukma</keyword> district on Monday, a police official said. The incident took place at around 3.15 am in the camp of the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) 50th battalion in Linganpalli village under Maraiguda police station of the area of the district, located nearly 400 km from the state capital Raipur, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said. As per preliminary information, constable <keyword id="12486778" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reetesh-ranjan" source="Orion">Reetesh Ranjan</keyword> fired at his colleagues with his service weapon, an AK-47 rifle, the official said. The seven injured personnel were immediately shifted to a hospital in nearby Bhadrachalam area of neighbouring Telangana, where doctors declared four of them dead on arrival, the official said. Those killed were identified as constables <keyword id="12486777" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajmani-kumar-yadav" source="Orion">Rajmani Kumar Yadav</keyword>, <keyword id="12486526" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajib-mondal" source="Orion">Rajib Mondal</keyword>, Dhanji and <keyword id="183281" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dharmendra-kumar" source="Orion">Dharmendra Kumar</keyword>, he said, adding that three other injured personnel were being treated at the hospital. "The motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is on into the incident," the official said. Constable Ranjan was immediately held and his interrogation is underway, he said. In a similar incident of fratricide in January this year, a CRPF jawan was killed and another one injured after their colleague opened fire at them in their camp in the state's Bastar district, police earlier said. The offender had then tried to commit suicide by shooting himself, they said. Four CRPF personnel killed and three injured after colleague opens fire in Chhattisgarh

The decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting held here on Saturday. Offline or physical classes in universities and colleges would also start from Monday, state Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey told reporters after the meeting. All COVID-19 prevention guidelines issued by the <keyword id="6356303" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Centre">Centre</keyword> and the state <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> will be followed in the classrooms, he said. Choubey said the state cabinet also decided to implement the Rajiv Nagar Awas Yojana in all districts of the state to provide housing facilities to homeless people. Under the scheme, government land would be made available to the Chhattisgarh Housing Board at the rate of Re 1 per sq ft and one lakh residential buildings would be built in all urban, semi-urban and major towns.
