Amidst concentrated efforts towards making India a <keyword id="6362048" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manufacturing">manufacturing</keyword> hub,Monster.com’s Salary index suggests that Manufacturing is the lowest paid sector with a median gross salary of ₹211.7. The report highlights that despite economic growth, the median hourly salary decreased by 16.0%, going from ₹251.9 in 2014 to ₹252.1 in 2015 and 211.7 in 2016. The rate at which the salaries in the sector is dipping could pose a challenge to attract new talent entering the marketplace.

Manufacturing sector is the backbone for a mature economy as it fuels growth, productivity, employment and strengthens agriculture and service sectors. In India, the manufacturing output contributes about 16% to the overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs nearly 12%-13% of the labour force. Taking hint from this overall structural transformation, there is an immediate need for India to marry human skills with automation in order to fulfil its ambition of becoming a manufacturing powerhouse. The focus should now be on re-skilling, upskilling, building relevant capabilities and creating jobs for the reportedly 10 million young people who enter the job market every year. At a supervisory position on an average, employees in the Manufacturing sector earn 34.7% more than their subordinates. This strong pay gap observed can be attributed to the pay gap between male and female supervisors. Manufacturing sector is the worst paid in India, however, there has been a subtle increase in the employees’ satisfaction with pay from 50.8% to 53.5%.

Male employees in the sector earn ₹256.6 on an average and female employees earn ₹179.8, constituting a 29.9% gender pay gap. Additionally, wholly and partially owned foreign companies pay more than double than that of domestic companies at a median gross hourly salary of ₹349.7. This indicates that improving the gender balance in labour force participation and managing the spate of automation could be an important step for India’s development. Millennials: the first generation of digital natives
 Millennials are those who were born between 1980 and 2000. Analysts say by 2020, Millennials will comprise half the global workforce. Not only are they becoming the biggest consumer demographic, but also the most important in terms of technology adoption. Around 50% of Millennials count on social media when buying online. Millennials’ affinity for technology is reshaping the <keyword id="34494" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="banking-industry">banking industry</keyword> globally, including in India. 

	Banking trends that can engage the Millennial audience
 

	Millennials are banking differently than any preceding generation. Besides the now established practice of using digital technologies, including mobile, social and wearables for everything, we highlight 5 other trends that banks need to embrace to engage this unique customer segment.
 

	1. Combining gamification and customer acquisition
 

	WeChat’s Hongbao, a gamification feature that launched during Chinese New Year in 2014, successfully attracted 8 million mobile payment customers – mostly new subscribers – in one night. Millennials, as a generation, take gaming seriously, and integrate their digital worlds into real life. It makes gamification – the use of game mechanics to digitally engage people – a significant tool for banks to acquire prospects. However, gamification means much more than a loyalty program, gesture control, or augmented reality. To succeed, banks need to incorporate gamification into their acquisition and retention strategy, designing from multiple perspectives including gaming elements, targeted players, motivation and awards.
 

	2. Launching digital wallet to battle against alternative payments
 More than a half of Millennials has either already adopted or would select non-traditional payment companies such as <keyword id="6357940" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Paypal">PayPal</keyword>, Alipay, or Paytm in a period of next 12 months. While banks are identifying gaps in their existing payment platforms to achieve simplification and transparency, it is even more important that bank CEOs understand innovations happening in the digital wallet space. The progress of the payment operations of players in the <keyword id="6354241" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Financial-Services">financial services</keyword>, telco and retail sectors will be decided by the battle for control of digital wallet solutions. A successful digital wallet deployment demands banks’ investment commitment, together with a focus on contextualized, value-added services – for instance, digital identity management, payment advisory services, location intelligence, and even crypto currency integration. 

	3. Automated banking services with robots and artificial intelligence
 

	Banks have been automating human operations since many years with innovations, from ATM to e-banking. But Millennials demand much more than that. For instance, only 14% of Millennials seek advice from financial advisors, preferring to explore new ways of considering investment decisions, which are easy to access and don’t require face-to-face interaction. Banks are now looking at how they can use digitalization to augment human processes, especially by using artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, to offer automated service as a complement to human financial advisors. In the combination of machine learning and self-service, bankers have an innovative digital service that interacts with customers, listens to questions and offers solutions, and takes basic customer services to scale.
 

	4. Frictionless experience in a connected ecosystem 
 Millennials are digital natives. Most of them were exposed to internet, mobile and social from an early age. 80% of Millennials conduct basic banking digitally. Furthermore, 64% would be keen to experience a wearable technology product offered by an <keyword id="4578" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="entertainment">entertainment</keyword> or media company. Bank CEOs should not only start building ecosystems based on internal and external digital touch points to serve Millennials, but also focus on creating seamless experiences across the ecosystem. In the end, what Millennials want is a more connected, frictionless customer journey – for instance, a mortgage advisory app connected with social and location-based services or an <keyword id="35450" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="insurance">insurance</keyword> offering that connects with wearable fitness data. 

	5. Making digital more contextualized, without the loss of simplification
 

	The desire to be treated as an individual is universal, but Millennials’ interaction with digital channels demands more personalized services and contextualized products. Technologies like big data and advanced analytics are accelerating its progress. However, bank CEOs also need to establish a balanced strategy between personalization and simplification. What is valued the most by Millennials is not the number of e-banking preferences or personalized cross-selling by ATMs. At the end of the day, Millennials are still banking customers who seek traditional value: easy-to-use services and low-cost products.
 

	Conclusion
 

	Banking is at the highest risk of disruption by Millennials. Nearly half of them believe innovation will come from outside the industry. Bank CEOs have to act immediately following the trends of digitalization, automation and contextualization, to offer Millennials frictionless experience across multiple digital touch points in a connected ecosystem. Banks that neglect these trends will fail to engage with Millennials in the near future; to quote The Millennial Disruption Index, 1 in 3 Millennials is open to switching banks in the next 90 days.

The company, which started initially by offering a mobile-only banking account, is now trying to integrate other features from credit products to expense tracking into an app.Chris Sugden, a managing director at Edison Partners, agrees.Consumers are "looking now for how can I get all the things I need for my banking or financial services in one place?" he said.<h2>Insurtech </h2>Strict regulations in the US have largely stymied the ability of the insurance industry to innovate, particularly compared to other areas within financial services such as payments and wealth management."While this is true of any regulated business, insurance, notably in the United States, has its patchwork approach to regulation driven by state insurance commissioners," said Matt Harris, a partner at Bain Capital Ventures."As a result, building a nationwide, disruptive, and game-changing insurance product company has no minimum viable product. Instead, you have to tangle with regulators from day one if you're going to make meaningful changes. This factor was one of the main reasons that insurance was the last part of 'fin-tech' to get moving."But this has started to change. New companies have emerged trying to disrupt the insurance industry, from health-insurance startups like Oscar and Devoted to property and casualty insurer like Lemonade and Metromile, to wealth-tech companies like Ladder and Halo.<h2>Financial inclusion</h2><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-worlds-unbanked-population-in-6-charts-2017-8">About 2 billion adults across the globe remain unbanked</a>, meaning they don't have access a bank account. And in the US <a href="https://www.fdic.gov/householdsurvey/">one government study</a> estimated that 32 million of households were unbanked or underbanked in 2017.Sugden of Edison Partners expects financial inclusion, or the ability to make mainstream financial services accessible at affordable costs, to be the next major theme for fin-tech startups."What you'll start to see is democratization, or inclusion," he said. "The idea is that the individuals on the lower end of the socio-economic spectrum - lower earners, possibly with lower creditworthiness - are going to get access to financial services through fin-tech providers that have a much lower cost of provisioning and a much more robust and flexible tech stack."Angela Strange, a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, says this goes beyond helping people avoid financial fees. A wide variety of new companies are emerging to increase gross income for lower-wage people. This includes <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/betterment-partnering-with-steady-for-gig-economy-2018-12">powering the gig economy to help people find short-term work</a>, as well as providing training programs to help workers sharpen professional skills and secure higher-paying jobs.<h2>Cryptocurrencies</h2>The superhot crypto space had a rough 2018, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-is-bitcoin-crashing-2018-11">with bitcoin's price falling below $4,000 per coin from a high of $20,000 the year before</a>.The headwinds that the crypto market suffered last year made it easier for Index Venture's Goldberg to understand what works, and what doesn't."Our investment philosophy in crypto has been watch it opportunistically, follow great founders who we know from other industries into the space," Goldberg said. Top venture investors tell us the 4 biggest fin-tech themes they're watching in 2019

MUMBAI: The markets are on a roll, with the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> and Nifty making fresh life highs, led by gains in banks, auto and energy counters. 
 
The new life high for Sensex is 26,356.24; and that for Nifty is 7,865.85. 
 
The Nifty extended its winning streak for fifth consecutive session and hit an all-time high as FIIs continued to pump in dollars in Indian markets on expectations of pick-up in economy 
 
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, President, Destimoney Securities, is of the view that the market will continue to move upwards. 
 
“A lot of FIIs money is coming out of Russia into Indian markets through BRICS fund. Domestic investors are also entering the market and that is providing support,” said Bandyopadhyay. 
 
At 2:02 p.m.; the 50-share index was at 7,860.95, up 69.25 points or 0.89 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 7,865.85 and a low of 7,779.20 in trade today. 
 The S&amp;P <keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword> Sensex was at 26,340.82, up 237.59 points or 0.91 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 26,356.24 and a low of 26,075.28 in trade today. 
 
Sandeep Tandon of Quant Broking is of the view that market went through consolidation in the last three months. It is light at the moment and looks set for next leg of upmove. 
 
The CNX Midcap Index rallied 1.27 per cent and the CNX Smallcap Index surged 2.10 per cent. 
 
Among the sectoral indices, the CNX Bank Nifty was up 1.49 per cent, the CNX Auto Index gained 1.02 per cent, the CNX Energy Index rose 1.42 per cent. 
 
The CNX FMCG Index was down 0.75 per cent and the CNX IT Index slipped 0.51 per cent. 
 BPCL (up 5.25 per cent), <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> (up 3.11 per cent), <keyword id="45008" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword> (up 3.04 per cent), BHEL (up 2.91 per cent) and Tata Motors (up 2.87 per cent) were among the major Nifty gainers. 
 
ITC (1.92 per cent), Infosys (1.01 per cent), HCL Tech (0.80 per cent), HDFC (0.70 per cent) and TCS (0.68 per cent) were among the index losers. 
 
The market breadth was positive on the NSE with 1090 gainers against 425 losers. 
 
Foreign institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 625.18 crore and domestic institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 135.75 crore on Thursday as per the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Airtel Payments Bank partners with Bharti AXA General for motor insurance

New Delhi, Apr 28 () Shares of Axis Bank and Max Financial Services on Tuesday gained up to 6.6 per cent after the bank decided to raise its stake in Max Life Insurance to 30 per cent.Axis Bank shares zoomed 6.61 per cent to close at Rs 455.55 on the BSE. During the day, it jumped 7.24 per cent to Rs 458.25.Max Financial Services also gained 5.14 per cent to close at Rs 475.80. It rose by 8.79 per cent to Rs 492.35 during the session.Axis Bank has decided to raise its stake in Max Group promoted Max Life Insurance to 30 per cent, a development which values the insurer at over Rs 5,000 crore.With the deal going through, sources said, the bank is expected to pay Rs 1,600 crore to Max Financial Services (MFS), the holding company of Max Life.Axis Bank holds about 1 per cent stake in Max Life and is the biggest banking channel partner for distribution of its products. Products sold through the bank reportedly contribute for 54 per cent of Max Life's revenues.The boards of Axis Bank, MFS and Max Life approved the transaction late on April 27, a joint statement said on Tuesday."This is an outcome of the inter-se discussions after the three companies had signed a confidentiality and exclusivity arrangement on February 20, 2020 to explore the possibility of a long-term strategic partnership between Axis Bank and Max Life," it said.Interestingly, the deal comes at a time when the economy is hit by COVID-19 crisis impacting all sectors of the economy, including the financial sector. Banking jobs: HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and more are hiring across the country for various roles

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Raising the FDIC's insurance limit in the aftermath of SVB's crash might not be a catalyst for a stock market rally. </li><li>Barclays notes there have been seven times since the 1930s that the insurance coverage cap was increased. </li></ul>Regulators stretching beyond the FDIC's $250,000 insurance limit to protect accounts at failed Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank appeared to dampen contagion risks but Barclays says raising that coverage cap may not spark a sustainable rally in stocks."What if FDIC insurance cap was lifted? Equity investors should not hold their breath," Anshul Gupta, a global equity derivatives strategist at Barclays, wrote in a research note published Tuesday. While the banking crisis appears to be increasingly under control, it wanted to look at the impact a potential raising of the FDIC limit would be on equities, the investment bank said. "Could this catalyze a broad rally in risky assets? Historical evidence is evasive at best," said Gupta. The $250,000 limit has been on the collective mind of Americans after the first bank seizures since the global financial crisis. Senator Elizabeth Warren, part of the Senate Banking Committee, said last month it would be "<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/elizabeth-warren-face-the-nation-transcript-03-19-2023/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">good move" to raise the insurance cap</a>, suggesting a potential range of $2 million to $10 million.<a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2023-03-30/fdic-insurance-should-be-raised-mnuchin-says-video?sref=GUP2BhaG" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Former US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin</a> also said coverage should be raised and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/14/business/maxine-waters-fdic.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Representative Maxine Waters</a>, the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, said Congress should think about bumping up the limit.Even <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/giannis-antetokounmpo-nba-bucks-lasry-bank-accounts-fdic-deposit-insurance-2023-4">NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo </a>said as a rookie, he spread his money across a number of banks because of the FDIC's insurance limit. Barclays looked at seven times the FDIC coverage limit was raised since the 1930s and found the S&amp;P 500 usually experienced negative returns ahead of such moves, suggesting limits are typically pushed higher in response to a crisis. "In the immediate aftermath of the limit increase, S&amp;P experienced wildly different paths, suggesting that raising the limit was not always successful in soothing the equity market," Gupta wrote. Stocks ultimately posted strong recoveries, with Barclays finding the S&amp;P 500, on average, posted a 22% gain in the year and a half after the FDIC lifted the insurance cap. That was in line with long-term expectations given the poor returns ahead of coverage increases, it said. "However, there's no evidence that the limit raise itself catalyzed the move. Indeed, the eventual relief rally is in line with what is expected given the magnitude of the fallout preceding the insurance cap lift," Gupta said.FDIC insurance limits took place in July 1934, six months after the FDIC was established, September 1950, October 1966, December 1969, November 1974, March 1980, and October 2008, during the height global financial crisis, according to American Deposit Management Co., a treasury management and financial services company.The S&amp;P 500 scored a 3.5% increase in March, even as the SVB and Signature Bank failures rocked the banking industry. <ul><li>The e-commerce platform wants to branch out into three areas: consumer and supplier <keyword id="6354680" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit">credit</keyword> as well as micro-insurance. </li><li><keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> is already in the process of applying for a non-banking financial company (NBFC) licence, and expects to start providing the services within three months. </li><li>The foray into financial products and credit options could power as much as 20% of the company’s sales growth by 2020.</li></ul>As it fends off <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> for the top spot in India’s e-commerce market, Flipkart is looking to attract more consumers and <keyword id="6526802" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="suppliers">suppliers</keyword> to its platform by offering them credit and <keyword id="35450" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance">insurance</keyword> products. In fact, the company is currently in the process of applying for a non-banking financial company (NBFC) licence from India’s central bank. It expects to start providing financial products within the next three months. These <keyword id="6354241" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Financial-services">financial services</keyword> will mostly be complementary in nature, which means that they will mainly be in the form of flexible payment options for the <a href="https://seller.flipkart.com/">100 million customers</a> who buy products and 100,000-odd sellers who supply goods to the platform. For example, <keyword id="6359672" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Customers">customers</keyword> are allowed a “pay later” option if they so choose, which in effect, is a micro-loan. However, it doesn’t end there. The line of credit to customers and suppliers will be a precursor to more customised financial products like insurance policies, The company will initially offer insurance on specific purchases like smartphones before branching out into general and life products. Flipkart has already been given the go-ahead from India’s insurance regulator to partner with insurers. It will use data on customer profile and transactions to gauge their credit-worthiness and price their policies accordingly. Keeping up with stakeholder preferences The move into financial services is a move in pursuit of higher sales. Well over half of Flipkart’s current customers, as well as a significant number of potential customers, don’t have access to formal credit options, which prevents them from making extensive purchases. To overcome this hurdle, Flipkart has provided them with EMI options, and now wants to take things a step further. The company also wants to support its suppliers, which comprises a number of small businesses that face a crunch when it comes to their working capital needs. It could even extend credit to suppliers off its own balance sheet. In an interview with Economic Times, Flipkart’s head of financial services, Ravi Garikipati, said that financial products would power as much <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/lending-products-to-form-20-of-flipkarts-growth-ravi-garikipati/articleshow/64849523.cms">as 20% of the portal’s sales growth </a>by 2020. Around 800,000 users already avail of the “pay later” option on the platform. Amazon is expected to follow suit in the financial services space as well, since a lack of access to credit also depresses purchases and discourages suppliers from coming aboard its platform. Last month, the company launched a new online platform where sellers can apply for loans online - the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/amazons-new-service-allows-indian-sellers-to-get-third-party-loans-through-the-company/articleshow/64587160.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Selling Lending Network (SLN)</a>. In addition to the lack of credit options, consumers also become hesitant at the point of purchase, given the prospect of immediately spending money. A one-click credit option is specifically aimed at alleviating that pain point.

<ul><li>Following the launch of the <keyword id="48812" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-Post">India Post</keyword> <keyword id="2324069" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Payments-Bank">Payments Bank</keyword> on Sep 1, the postal service plans to spin off its <keyword id="6406875" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="life-insurance">life insurance</keyword> business into a separate unit. </li><li>According to Minister of Communications, Manoj Sinha, the Indian postal service will set up an insurance company by 2020. </li><li>The Indian postal service already dabbles in insurance through the operation of the Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RLPI) schemes. </li></ul> After three years of planning, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) on September 1st. The payments banking service will be run exclusively by the Indian postal service, which boasts 155,000 offices all over the country, and offer savings accounts with deposits of upto ₹100,000 along with transfers and bill payments. With the initial operation of 650 branches prior to scaling to all post offices - which will create India’s largest banking network - and the deployment of 300,000 postmen to offer doorstep service in far-flung areas, the IPPB is expected to go a long way in helping the government achieve its <keyword id="107911" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Financial-inclusion">financial inclusion</keyword> goals. In a sign of confidence, the payments bank is receiving a 80% hike in its budget to ₹14.4 billion from the government, which expects it to become profitable in two years time. But a payments bank isn’t all that the Indian postal service, which falls under the Ministry of Communications, has planned. While the IPPB has the ability to cross-sell insurance products, the India Post is said to be working on the launch of an insurance firm. According to Minister of Communications, Manoj Sinha, the Indian postal service plans to set up an insurance company as a business unit by 2020. The idea was first floated <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/postal-department-looks-to-spin-off-life-insurance-business/article24361491.ece">in July.</a> A tender for the appointment of a consultancy to facilitate the establishment of the insurer is set to go live in the coming week, Sinha added. The Indian postal service already dabbles in insurance through the operation of the Postal Life Insurance (PLI) scheme, which has been around since the late 19th century. The scheme offers life insurance services to government employees, civil servants, employees of state-owned companies and military personnel. It currently has around 4.7 million active policies. A rural complement to the scheme, Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) was launched two decades ago and has since grown to nearly 15 million policies. Sinha explained that the Indian postal service was in the throes of an important transformation, In April 2018, the postal service also decentralised its parcels and logistic services business for the purpose of efficiency and the uptake of e-commerce.

New Delhi, Jan 22 () The Finance Ministry will showcase achievements of the financial inclusion drive through a tableau during the Republic Day parade on January 26.
 The Defence Ministry has selected the design of Department of Financial Services (DFS) of Ministry of Finance for taking part in the parade.
 Besides DFS, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, NDRF Ministry of Home Affairs, CPWD Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Ministry of Shipping will also participate in the Republic Day parade, according to a Defence Ministry release.
 Financial inclusion programme initiated in mission mode since August 2014 to ensure access to financial services - banking/ savings &amp; deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, pension.
Under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana as many as 37.87 crore accounts have been opened with total deposit of Rs 1.12 lakh crore.
 India's financial inclusion efforts have won recognition from the World Bank as their data indicated that 55 per cent of new bank accounts were opened are from India.
As per the World Bank Global Findex Report 2017, adult bank account holders in India increased to 80 per cent in 2017 as compared to 53 per cent in 2014 and 35 per cent in 2011.
The report acknowledged impact of government policy in reducing gaps in bank account ownership between rich and poor to 5 per cent in 2017, down from 15 per cent in 2014.
 Besides, the government also initiated insuring the uninsured. Under this, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana was launched in 2015.
 The PMJJBY offers life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh in case of death due to any reason to people in the age group of 18-50 years having a bank or post office account, who give their consent to join or enable auto-debit of premium of Rs 330 per annum.
The PMSBY offers insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh for accidental death or total permanent disability and Rs 1 lakh for partial permanent disability to people in the age group of 18-70 years with a bank or post office account, who give their consent to join or enable auto-debit of premium of Rs 12 per annum.
