 It was announced by <keyword id="26806" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maharashtra-Chief-Minister">Maharashtra Chief Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6355042" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Devendra-Fadnavis">Devendra Fadnavis</keyword> today, according to a PTI report. 
	 

	"Thank you @PrakashJavdekarjee for approving coastal road for Mumbai. It's a dream come true. Best gift to Mumbai by Modiji's Govt," Fadnavis tweeted after meeting Javadekar in Delhi this morning. 
	 

	"Coastal road will decongest the traffic of Mumbai and will create 91 hectares of green spaces. Taking Mumbai infra to next standard. Earlier govt. was talking about coastal road for 5yrs. I'd promised Mumbai that will get it approved in 5 months," he said. 
	 

	"Happy it took even lesser time. Timeline of Mumbai coastal road clearance. Draft Notification by 15th June. Final notification by 15th August," the chief minister said in series of tweets. The <keyword id="6356172" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maharashtra-government">Maharashtra government</keyword> signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 6 with the government of the <keyword id="44173" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Netherlands">Netherlands</keyword> to obtain technical advice on feasibility of building metro track along the proposed coastal road connecting north and south Mumbai.

Boost for Mumbai infrastructure, Centre clears coastal road project

New Delhi, Nov 15 () Essar Ports on Friday said it has completed work on a passenger ferry terminal at Hazira, paving the way for cruise-based service between Surat and Mumbai.
 The terminal has been built in record eight months' time, it added.
 "Essar Bulk Terminal Ltd (EBTL), a part of Essar Ports...has completed work on the Passenger Ferry Terminal that has paved the way for a cruise-based passenger ferry service, commencing today, between Hazira Port in Surat and Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. The Hazira-based terminal will also lead to ferry services being offered on other routes in the future," Essar Ports said in a statement.
 Phase I of the terminal project will focus on the movement of passengers between Hazira in Surat and Mumbai. The company said it plans to extend the service to other coastal locations in Gujarat.
 "The ferry service will be a huge boost to tourism in Gujarat. We look forward to contributing to similar projects that will help unleash the tremendous potential of coastal transport in India by using the country's extensive network of inland waterways," said Rajiv Agarwal, MD and CEO, Essar Ports.
 The company said the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) had given its permission to EBTL to develop and operate a passenger ferry terminal at Hazira, where the company also operates a 50 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) dry bulk cargo terminal.
 "We are proud to have commissioned the project in record time to pave the way for the launch of this revolutionary ferry service," said Subhas Das, CEO, EBTL.

Since centuries, India has been building engineering marvels, leaving everyone in awe. Be it hanging pillar in a 16th century temple, or musical pillars, or largest monolith in the world, India has turned out stones and ideas into fascinating objects with chisel and hammer and engineering techniques. 
 
From building temples to services for the mankind, India has numerous engineering marvels to boast of. Indians have linked two lands separated by seas and have connected masses to remotest of the villages with bridges. 
 
You name it, we have already conquered it. Such engineering marvels can be seen in railways. For instance, the Pamban sea bridge, the second longest sea bridge, after Worli Sea Link in Mumbai that was opened to public in 2010. 
 
Pamban Sea Bridge was opened to public in 1914 and was India’s first sea bridge that connected southern Rameswaram town on Pamban Island to Palk Strait. The bridge spans a 2 km-strait between mainland and island and is the only surface transport link between the two. 
 
It is also India’s first Cantilever bridge and there were many challenges while constructing it, such as it was built in world’s second highly corrosive environment, first one being Mexico.

 Money that would put a smile on any face The mega city’s generous 24 million population has accepted the civic body’s indifference as its fate. This, even after contributing ₹30,000 crore ($4.2 billion) this year to the municipal budget. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s budget has swelled nearly five times in the last 12 years but the plight of its people has only gotten worse. Even by the standards of commercial capitals in developing countries, Mumbai is a mess. Behind the veneer of its entrepreneurial spirit and a professional workforce, lies a city that has been plundered by the ruling elite at an unprecedented scale. Mumbai’s civic body is flushing billions down the drain Meanwhile, the cats at the BMC (which has 1.2 lakh personnel) are getting fatter every year. For instance, documents show that its Chief Engineer AS Yamgar of the Sewerage Operation Department made a monthly salary of ₹1,24,725 as of June 2018. This is nearly as much as <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/business/budget-2018-increases-salary-of-president-by-200-to-rs-5-lakh-per-month-1647855.html">the salary of the President of India before the hike last year</a>, or that of a mid-level corporate employee. However, for the BMC leadership and staff, the money seems to come without accountability.

 And the rot runs deep. <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/mumbai-bmc-driver-makes-more-money-than-commissioner-216408-2013-11-04">An India Today story in 2013</a> exposed how a driver earns more than the municipal Commissioner he serves. He simply slept in the vehicle after being relieved of his duties and got paid for working overtime. Shiv Sena, the party ruled by the Thackeray family, controlled the corporation for most part of the last three decades. Therefore, the blame for the shortcomings of the civic body squarely falls on them. The poor quality of the pothole-ridden roads of Mumbai reveal the enormity of misused funds. People tend to believe without question when it is informally said that less than 20% of the money is actually used in the infrastructure projects, and the rest is siphoned off. The passivity of the voters can be disheartening. Almost 81% of the total of 1,491 kilometres of roads in the city are managed by the BMC. But, the four best-managed roads in the city – Bandra Worli SeaLink, New Airport Road, Eastern Freeway and Bandra Kurla Complex-- are under the supervision of Mumbai Metropolitan Road Development Authority (MMRDA), which is also in charge of the metro rail construction that is currently underway. The MMRDA is not without flaws as exposed by <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/mumbai/mumbai-monorail-a-trip-to-nowhere/article29273282.ece">the colossal failure of the recent monorail project</a>. Yet, it has been slightly more efficient than the BMC in some cases. The devastating floods of 2005 that killed over a 1,000 people should have been a wake up call. At that stage, an honest leadership would have been embarrassed enough to pull themselves into action and resurrect the city to avoid a similar carnage in the future. Since then, there have been five Chief Ministers -- Vilasrao Deshmukh, Ashok Chavan, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Prithviraj Chavan, and now, Devendra Fadnavis-- but the people’s plight has got worse with every passing monsoon. One may expect the authorities to prepare and respond better given that an election is scheduled this year. However, the choice for the voters is between the devil and the deep sea as both Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) outfits have failed the people of the city over the years. In Mumbai, “<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/393220611192996582/?nic=1">there are no heroes here, only survivors.</a>”

If Mumbai is Gotham, the civic body would be the Joker

New Delhi, Dec 12 () Piramal Realty on Thursday said it has formed a joint venture with Omkar Realtors to develop a project in Mumbai and will invest Rs 3,000 crore over the next few years.
 Piramal Realty, the real estate development arm of diversified conglomerate Piramal group, announced its second joint development agreement (JDA) with Omkar for a residential project in Mahim this week.
 The company intends to develop 2.2 million sq ft over 4 acres and plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore over the next few years.
 The development benefits from being in close proximity to Mumbai's premiere business district of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). This would be the largest residential development in the Mahim/BKC area.
 "At Piramal Realty, we are excited to develop this prime parcel which is not only a few minutes from the sea link but also enjoys beautiful views of the sea, mangroves and other open spaces. With the opening of several world class malls, restaurants, hotels, schools and theatres, BKC will this year become the social and cultural nerve centre of the city," said Anand Piramal, founder, Piramal Realty.
 The company achieved a total sales booking worth Rs 3,400 crore last fiscal.
 Founded in 2012, Piramal Realty is one of the country's leading developers with 17 million sq ft of residential and commercial under development in and around Mumbai.

Mumbai, Jul 12 () The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed actor Rekha's bungalow in suburban Bandra after a security guard there tested coronavirus positive, a civic official said on Sunday. The guard at the 65-year-old 'Umrao Jaan' actor's bungalow 'Sea Springs' tested positive on Tuesday, the official said. The BMC has put a board outside the premises declaring the place as a containment area. The security guard has been hospitalised at the BMC's COVID-19 care facility in Bandra Kurla Complex, he said. The first phase of Mumbai Metro 3, will run between SEEPZ (Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone) and Bandra Kurla Complex. The project will be completed by the end of December 2024, which was initially scheduled to be completed by September 2024. During the cabinet meeting, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave its nod to giving the state government's share of Rs 1,163 crore directly to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, instead of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the completion of the project. According to the government, the project has achieved the completion of 98% and its revised cost is Rs 37,275.50 crore. As per the information available on the website of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, about 99.2% of civil works under the project have been completed. About 97% of the overall station construction has been completed. Under the project, tunnelling works have been fully completed, while 77.6% of overall systems work, depot civil works 99.8% and mainline track works have been completed almost 87% The introduction of the metro transportation system has witnessed a significant response in the city as the daily ridership of the Mumbai Metro has witnessed a significant increase. On July 24, 2023, the ridership reached 2,12,490, followed by 2,18,635 on July 25, 2023. The highest recorded ridership was on July 26, 2023, with 2,22,290 passengers. This surge in ridership has been observed specifically on the Metro 2A and 7 lines, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation said in a release.
