Shares of <keyword id="6357149" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hdfc-bank">HDFC Bank</keyword> on Monday surged nearly 6 per cent after the <keyword id="6412746" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lender">lender</keyword> posted a 15.4 per cent rise in <keyword id="1009537" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Consolidated">consolidated</keyword> net profit for the March quarter on healthy interest income. The scrip jumped 5.54 per cent to Rs 960.85 on the <keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword>. It was the top gainer on the 30-share BSE <keyword id="6355376" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Benchmark">benchmark</keyword> Sensex. On the NSE, it rose by 5.56 per cent to Rs 960.95. HDFC Bank on Saturday posted a 15.4 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 7,280.22 crore for the March quarter on healthy interest income, even as it faced a hit towards the end of the fiscal due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The private sector lender had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 6,300.81 crore in the corresponding January-March period of the preceding fiscal year 2018-19. Consolidated total income grew to Rs 38,287.17 crore in the reported quarter, Rs 33,260.48 crore in the year ago period, the bank said in a regulatory filing. On a standalone basis, the bank's net profit grew by 17.7 per cent to Rs 6,927.69 crore from Rs 5,885.12 crore. Income rose to Rs 35,917.63 crore as against Rs 31,204.46 crore earlier. On the asset quality front, the gross non-performing assets as a percentage of gross advances as on March 31, 2020 improved to 1.26 per cent from 1.36 per cent at end of March 2019. SUM ANSANSANS

HDFC Bank shares surge by 6% as investors cheer healthy profits

The 30-share Sensex climbed 329.15 points to 60,676.12 in early trade. The <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> advanced 92.4 points to 18,096.15. From the Sensex pack, Maruti, ICICI Bank, NTPC, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra were the major gainers in initial trade. IndusInd Bank, Tech Mahindra, <keyword id="6354512" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="infosys" source="Orion">Infosys</keyword> and <keyword id="6357147" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-steel" source="Orion">Tata Steel</keyword> were among the laggards. Asian markets in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Seoul were quoting in the green, while Shanghai traded lower. The US markets had ended on a positive note on Wednesday. The <keyword id="35140" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bse" source="Orion">BSE</keyword> benchmark had settled at 60,346.97, a loss of 224.11 points or 0.37 per cent on Wednesday. The broader NSE Nifty closed lower by 66.30 points or 0.37 per cent at 18,003.75. Meanwhile, the international oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.09 per cent to USD 94.02 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors offloaded Rs 1,397.51 crore from the domestic equities on Wednesday. Benchmark indices rebound amid positive global trends

A massive selloff in the <keyword id="44794" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Equity-market">equity market</keyword> eroded Rs 4,23,139.78 crore from investors' wealth in a single trading session on Monday. Markets witnessed significant selling pressure in the second half of trade and the 30-share <keyword id="723721" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-benchmark-index">BSE benchmark index</keyword> ended 811.68 points or 2.09 per cent lower at 38,034.14. Following weakness in the equity market, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies plummeted by Rs 4,23,139.78 crore to Rs 1,54,76,979.16 crore. On Friday, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies was at Rs 1,59,00,118.94 crore. "Indian benchmark indices succumbed to profit booking in the second half of the trading day. It was in sync with global cues which turned negative following surge in infections in various countries including in Europe," <keyword id="9976351" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="geojit-financial-services-head">Geojit Financial Services Head</keyword> of Research Vinod Nair said. "Additional restrictions were being considered in Europe following an increase in infections," he added. IndusInd Bank was the top loser in the Sensex pack, tumbling 8.67 per cent, followed by Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, <keyword id="6653" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-bank">ICICI Bank</keyword>, M&amp;M, Maruti and Axis Bank, while Kotak Bank, Infosys and TCS were the only three gainers from the 30-share frontline companies list. "Markets started the week on feeble note and lost nearly 2.5 per cent, following weak global peers. The first half was lackluster. However, significant selling pressure was witnessed in the latter half. "We feel rising COVID-19 cases combined with correction in the US markets spooked investors," Ajit Mishra, VP - Research, <keyword id="3530822" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="religare-broking-ltd">Religare Broking Ltd</keyword> said. On the BSE, 2,165 companies declined, while 595 advanced and 178 remained unchanged. In the broader market, the BSE smallcap and midcap indices declined up to 3.61 per cent. All BSE sectoral indices closed in the red, with BSE telecom, realty, metal and auto tanking up to 5.77 per cent. Sensex sinks 800 points, Nifty cracks below 11,300 — global selloff eroded ₹4.23 lakh crore from investor wealth

New Delhi, Mar 16 () Investor wealth worth Rs 6.25 lakh crore was wiped off in early morning trade on Monday as markets witnessed yet another sell-off, with the BSE benchmark plunging 2,182.41 points as Covid-19 scare continued to hit sentiment. The market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies dropped by Rs 6,25,501.8 crore to Rs 1,23,00,741.02 crore in the opening trade. The drop in investor wealth was led by extremely weak market sentiment, where the BSE Sensex witnessed another plunge after staging a strong comeback on Friday. The entire BSE 30-share pack was trading in the red, led by IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC and Axis Bank, tumbling up to 9.3 per cent. Market heavyweight Reliance Industries was also trading over 3 per cent lower, which was also instrumental in dragging the benchmark lower. All the sectoral indices were trading with sharp losses.
