In Q3 2024, 46 million smartphones were shipped in India. According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), Cupertino tech giant Apple posted its highest quarterly shipments in India at 4 million units, led by iPhone 15 and iPhone 13. “Growth in the biggest quarter of the year was fueled by attractive discounts, multiple financing options, extended device warranty and cashback/bank offers across both online/offline channels. market</h2>Vivo has emerged as the market leader in Q3 2024, with a 15.8% market share, up from a 13.9% market share in Q3 2023. This marks the third consecutive quarter where the smartphone maker has led the Indian smartphone market. Vivo’s shipments have increased by 20% year-on-year. Oppo is second, with a 13.9% market share in Q3 2024, up from a 9.9% market share in Q3 2023. The company’s shipments have increased by 47.6% year-on-year. Samsung, which led the Indian smartphone market in Q3 2023 with a market share of 16.2% has been pushed down to the third spot with a 12.3% market share. The company’s shipments have declined by 19.7% year-on-year. Other notable changes include the increase in Apple’s market share from 5.7% to 8.2%, a decline in OnePlus’ market share from 6.2% to 3.6% and a 149% year-on-year increase in shipments recorded by Motorola. <h2>5G shipments on the rise</h2>The share of 5G shipments increased to 83% in Q3 2024, up from 57% in Q3 2023. Of the 46 million smartphones shipped, 38 million were 5G smartphones. This has been fueled by the decline in the average selling price (ASP) of 5G smartphones. The ASP has by 20% to $292 (approx. ₹24,650). “Cyclical dip in demand after the festive period and high shipments in 3Q24 will result in higher stock levels across channels in 4Q24. Thus, India's smartphone market is expected to exit 2024 with a low single-digit annual growth,” said Navkendar Singh, AVP – Devices Research, IDC. Indian smartphone shipments grow 5.6% in Q3 2024, Vivo leads the market

In an interaction with PTI, Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Santosh Iyer said the luxury car segment is set for its best-ever performance this year with <keyword id="19894908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Festive-season" source="keywords">festive season</keyword> offtakes playing a major role in the overall performance. He noted that the festive season generally gives high double-digit <keyword id="20040491" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sales-growth" source="keywords">sales growth</keyword>, helping the automaker to average out single-digit growth of the earlier quarter. "So in that sense, on an average, then we are able to get a double-digit growth during the festive season," Iyer stated. Elaborating on the overall industry, which still remains a very small part of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country, he said the segment is headed for record volumes this fiscal year but not all players are witnessing growth." Some (companies) are even degrowing, some are flat and they are facing headwinds, but because we are the primary player in the market, we still feel the luxury car market should cross 50,000-51,000 cars this year," Iyer said. The luxury car market in India currently remains very small accounting for less than 2 % of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country. Audi India Head Balbir Singh Dhillon said the automaker anticipates positive buying trends to continue during the festive season. "Our best-selling models - the A4, A6, Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, and the newly launched Q8 - continue to drive robust demand," he added. The company is equally optimistic about the e-tron range, the e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT, Dhillon said. BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said the fundamentals of the Indian economy are sturdy and consumer confidence in the luxury segment is on the rise. "For BMW Group India, the order bank is solid and we are trying our best to speed up deliveries for our customers. Along with additional bookings around Diwali and Dussehra, we are confident of closing the year on a high note while clocking impressive growth," he stated. He noted that the group is witnessing very strong demand for products across all segments. Pawah said that in the run-up to the festive season, the company has introduced several special editions of its existing model range. The festive season usually commences with Onam and ends with Diwali every year.

Luxury carmakers Mercedes, Audi, BMW expect robust sales this festive season

Rivian's stock dropped as low as 9.7% on Wednesday before recovering some of the losses by the next day.On the campaign trail, the president-elect has also targeted the Biden administration's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inflation-reduction-act-how-it-reduces-price-growth-deficit-pressures-2022-8">Inflation Reduction Act,</a> which includes a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-trump-presidential-victory-could-mean-for-evs-tesla-musk-2024-7">$7,500 tax credit</a> for SUV and pickup truck EVs that cost $80,000 or less.Claire McDonough, Rivian's chief financial officer, said during the call that Rivian customers who qualify for the tax credit are largely those who lease. The CFO said the "lease penetration," or percentage of total cars sold through leases, was 42%.Rivian's R1S and R1T pickup trucks have a base price of $75,900 and $69,900 respectively, while the company plans to sell the R2 for $45,000."Given the price point of our vehicles and the overall income levels, most of our customers don't qualify on a financed or cash purchase," she said.RBC Capital Markets auto analyst Tom Narayan told Business Insider that he's concerned Rivian could lose the tax credit incentive under the new administration.A Rivian spokesperson declined to comment.Scaringe said during the call that Rivian also is on the lookout for potential policy impacts on the "upstream supply chain," which includes raw materials. On top of the uncertainty that comes with the second Trump administration, Rivian continues to face hurdles toward profitability — a challenge many new automakers face, with the exception of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-stock-tsla-earnings-call-report-live-updates-2024-10">Tesla</a>.Rivian reported a negative gross profit of $392 million in the third quarter compared to a negative gross profit of $477 million for the same period of last year.Total Q3 revenue was down 35% from last year, to $874 million, driven by the delivery of 10,018 vehicles, the company reported. Regulatory credits, or credits automakers receive from the government for producing EVs, accounted for $8 million of the total revenue for Q3 2024.Scaringe said he was optimistic about Rivian's path to profitability, noting an expected 20% reduction in material costs to produce Rivian's pickup truck, the R1, between Q1 and Q4 this year."As we look forward, we're excited to work with the new administration," Scaringe said in an interview with CNBC before the earnings call, "but really our focus is making sure the vehicles really can help customers make the switch from internal combustion to electrification."

Rivian is shoring up sourcing for its R2 affordable SUV with Trump's proposed tariffs in mind, CEO says

The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 5,496.04 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal, Tata Motors said in a regulatory filing. Total consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 1,19,986.31 crore, as compared to Rs 1,05,932.35 crore in the year-ago period. In <keyword id="20028449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Q4" source="keywords">Q4</keyword> FY24, Tata Motors said all three auto businesses delivered strong performance. The company's British arm Jaguar Land Rover had "another record-breaking quarter in Q4 FY24. Revenue for the quarter was 7.9 billion pounds, up 11 per cent versus Q4 FY23", Tata Motors said. JLR's Profit After Tax (PAT) in Q4 was 1.4 billion pounds as against a profit of 259 million pounds in the same quarter a year ago, it added. The Board of Directors have recommended a final dividend of Rs 3 per ordinary share and Rs 3.10 per 'A' ordinary share and a special dividend of Rs 3 per ordinary share and Rs 3.10 per 'A' ordinary share subject to approval by the shareholders. For the fiscal ended March 31, 2024, consolidated net profit was at Rs 31,806.75 crore as compared to Rs 2,689.87 crore in the previous fiscal, the company said. In FY24, total consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 4,37,927.77 crore as compared to Rs 3,45,966.97 crore in FY23. <keyword id="20430970" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors-group" source="keywords">Tata Motors Group</keyword> Chief Financial Officer, PB Balaji said in FY24 the Tata Motors Group delivered its highest-ever revenues, profits, and free cash flows. "The India business is now debt-free, and we are on track to become net automotive debt-free on a consolidated basis in FY25. The businesses are executing well on their distinct strategies and therefore, we are confident of sustaining this strong performance in the coming years," he added. JLR's revenues for FY24 were 29 billion pounds, its highest-ever full-year revenue and up 27 per cent compared to the prior year, while PAT for FY24 was 2.6 billion pounds. "We have delivered a record financial performance for the company, generating free cash flow of 2.3 billion pound, enabling us to reduce net debt to 0.7 billion pound," JLR Chief Executive Officer Adrian Mardell said. The foundation of this performance was the sustained global demand for JLR's modern luxury vehicles, led by Range Rover and Defender brands, underpinned by a consistent focus on operational improvement, he added. Tata Commercial Vehicles' Q4 FY24 revenue was at Rs 21,600 crore, while FY24 revenue was Rs 78,800 crore. In Q4 FY24, domestic wholesale commercial vehicles (CV) volumes were 1,04,600 units, lower 7 per cent year-on-year on account of increased pre-buy in Q4 FY23 due to BS6 Phase II transition, the company said. Tata Motors Ltd Executive Director Girish Wagh said the Indian CV industry grew by a modest 2 per cent in volumes during FY24, impacted by a high base effect of FY23, elections held across five states and the announcement of general elections. "Our sharp focus on profitable growth resulted in the CV business recording its highest-ever revenues of Rs 78,800 crore and profits of Rs 6,100 crore in FY24. Going forward, we will intensify our efforts to grow market share, profitably and consistently, in every business segment by delivering more value to customers with innovative products, smarter services and holistic mobility solutions," he added. Tata Passenger Vehicles clocked revenue of Rs 14,400 crore in Q4 while for the full year FY24 it was at Rs 52,400 crore. In Q4, Passenger Vehicle (PV) volumes were at 1,55,600 units, up 14.8 per cent from the year-ago period, supported by new SUV facelifts and multiple power trains, the company said. "Passenger vehicle sales in India set a record in FY24 with over 4.2 million units sold, driven by SUVs (50 per cent of overall sales) and emission-friendly powertrains. Tata Motors recorded its third consecutive year of highest sales volumes with 6 per cent growth in wholesales and 10 per cent in retail sales over FY23," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Managing Director Shailesh Chandra said. The company sold 73,800 EVs during the year, marking a 48 per cent increase as compared to FY23 and crossed a milestone of 1.5 lakh cumulative EV production, he added. There's <a href="https://www.motortrend.com/features/best-ambient-lighting/#:~:text=What%20Is%20Ambient%20Lighting%3F,control%20vents%2C%20and%20speaker%20surrounds.">ambient lighting</a> with every color under the rainbow, just because. There are calming noise tracks like Hyundai and Kia's "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/genesis-gv80-suv-sounds-nature-coolest-interior-function-ambient-noise-2020-10">Sounds of Nature</a>." There are massaging seats so weak they might as well not be there. The whole idea is to make the <keyword id="11897278" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="car" source="Orion">car</keyword> feel like a peaceful escape, but most of the time, they're forgettable features hidden in a deep menu of other forgettable features.But the 2021 <keyword id="12434124" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="audi" source="Orion">Audi</keyword> Q5 Sportback SUV had something that really, truly brought me peace: its navigation display, which could splash across both its main infotainment screen and the driver's instrument cluster.<div type="image" title="The Audi Q5 Sportback's dark interior." height="3307" width="4961" msid="87766542" hostid="261"></div>For most of my week driving the Q5 Sportback, nothing really jumped out at me about it. It's an easy car to like. Its interior and exterior design are simple enough to blend in with other cars and with the Audi lineup, its signature "sportback" slanted roof makes it look a little more agile than the normal Q5 SUV, and Audi's four-rings logo — a universal sign, similar to that of BMW and Mercedes, that you're affluent enough to drive an Audi — adds that extra level of fanciness that the car's safe appearance somewhat lacks. The Sportback doesn't ask you to think very hard about it, and that's not a bad thing.<div type="image" title="Audi's virtual cockpit displays." height="2680" width="4018" msid="87766544" hostid="261"></div>Then my spouse and I set off on a day trip in the car, which gave us time to fumble with all of its features. With the navigation up on the main infotainment screen, we flipped through Audi's virtual cockpit, which lets users customize the driver's instrument cluster. Your speedometer and tachometer gauges can be big or small, and, like with many modern digital cockpit displays, you can use the screen space in between to monitor anything from your radio settings to your fuel mileage. Flipping through the screens, we found the navigation setting — a nearly full-screen display of our route, illustrated like a modern version of Google Earth. There's a reason everyone loves screwing around on Google Earth: It's peaceful, just like this setting on the Q5 Sportback was.<div type="image" title="Audi's virtual cockpit display." height="3308" width="4961" msid="87766546" hostid="261"></div>Spread across both of our main viewpoints in the front of the car, it was like a panoramic view of our route. There were no other distractions, only the green tint of nature and the little arrow showing us which way we were going.It was as if we were getting a break from the monotony of the road in front of us, courtesy of watching the aerial scenery around us. <div type="image" title="The Audi Q5 Sportback's dark interior." height="3309" width="4961" msid="87766549" hostid="261"></div>It felt starkly different from today's driving experience. Modern cars are full of options, menus, settings, and alerts. Information displays tell you how low your tires are, how much fuel you're using, when you need an oil change next, if you're following the car in front of you too closely, if you veer out of your lane — in a time when everything is a computer, from your smartphone to your car, it's hard to realize just how much information overload we experience these days until we get a break from it. The Q5 Sportback's display settings gave me that break, and my road trip was far more peaceful because of it. As I scrolled through Audi's photos of the virtual cockpit, I realized a pattern: Whenever Audi shows off this display, the carmaker makes sure to do it in a place where peaceful nature scenes show up on its displays and out of the car's windows. The photo setup is genius. It emphasizes everything I felt while rolling down the road with all of my displays covered in aerial views of the land around me: focused yet relieved, because I wasn't bombarded with constant information about my vehicle or surroundings. Ambient nature sounds, mood lighting, and massaging seats may be your thing, but at their core, they're simply extra features meant to distract you from reality. Splashing the terrain around you across every screen in your Audi doesn't distract you from reality; it reminds you of just how peaceful the world can be when you cut out the noise.Sometimes, that's the most valuable reminder you can get.

Ingolstadt, Luxury automaker <keyword id="19911529" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="audi" source="keywords">Audi</keyword> India is looking to commence local assembly of electric vehicles, a move which would help it roll out models at an affordable price helping expand its customer base in the country. The automaker currently imports its entire EV range comprising Q8 50 e-tron, Q8 55 e-tron, Q8 <keyword id="21011482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sportback" source="keywords">Sportback</keyword> 50 e-tron, Q8 Sportback 55 e-tron, e-tron GT, and RS e-tron GT, into the country. It, however, assembles petrol models like Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, A4, and A6 at its Aurangabad (Maharashtra) based manufacturing plant. In an interaction with PTI here, Audi India Head Balbir <keyword id="20078416" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="singh-dhillon" source="keywords">Singh Dhillon</keyword> said the local manufacturing of EVs is a work in progress with active discussions going on with its global headquarters. "We are working with Audi AG very positively and hopefully at some point in time we will be able to announce this (local assembly of EV models)," he noted. When asked about the expected timeline of commencing the process, Dhillon did not share any specific date but stated that the India unit is discussing the matter with the global headquarters very "positively". "Hopefully we should have some solution at some point in time. That is the time when you can reach even more (set of customers) because then you will get the best advantage in terms of price point," he said. He further said, "I think the next 2-3 years will be very crucial (2024-2026). These years will see many more new electric cars coming at different price points. Then I think our reach to our existing customers or first-time buyers will go up." The company's current EV model lineup is priced over Rs 1 crore thus serving a very niche set of customers. Currently, cars imported into India as Completely Built Units (CBUs) attract customs duty ranging from 60 per cent to 100 per cent. The country's customs duty system treats electric cars and hydrocarbon-powered vehicles equally, imposing significant tariffs to encourage domestic manufacturing. Audi, globally, is looking to introduce multiple electric models in the next 2-3 years many of which would also come to India thus helping the Indian operations to choose which ones to localise. In order to rev up sales volume, Audi India would look out for models which sit below the current range in price terms. The company currently gets around 2 per cent of its total sales from EVs. It reported 89 per cent growth in retail sales in India at 7,931 units last year as compared with a total of 4,187 units in 2022. Audi on Monday evening globally premiered the Q6 e-tron, a new EV model which would sit below the Q8 e-tron range. To be manufactured at the company's Ingolstadt plant, the model is expected to roll out in various markets globally this year. It is also expected to make its way to Indian shores early next year. Dhillon said the model would help in widening the company's customer base in India. "That's the expectation that our penetration in electric mobility should go up with this model (Q6 e-tron)," he noted. Audi expects 50 per cent of its sales in India to come from electric vehicles by 2030. Globally, Audi has decided to become a fully electric vehicle manufacturer from 2033 onwards. The Q6 e-tron is the first production model on the company's <keyword id="21011483" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="premium-platform-electric" source="keywords">Premium Platform Electric</keyword> (<keyword id="19989989" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ppe" source="keywords">PPE</keyword>), marking the next step in the company's transformation into a provider of premium electric mobility. The electric SUV will be available to order from this month with deliveries expected to customers in the third quarter of 2024. The Q6 e-tron comes with a range of up to 625 kms. "The PPE shows how we are pooling expertise within the <keyword id="20139313" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="volkswagen-group" source="keywords">Volkswagen Group</keyword> and thus making electric mobility scalable," Audi AG Chairman of the Board of Management Gernot Dollner said. Thanks to the PPE, the company is able to launch high-volume models with high technical standards in different segments, he added.
