To influence voters in Bihar, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Prime+Minister+Narendra+Modi+">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</a> announced on Tuesday a package of whopping Rs 1.25 lakh crore for the state and promised that it would touch new heights of development if the BJP is voted to power. 
 
Modi also attacked <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bihar+Chief+Minister+Nitish+Kumar+">Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar</a> for putting the prestige of Bihar at stake by pleading with the previous <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=UPA+government+">UPA government</a> for packages and getting only Rs 12,000 crore, reported PTI. 
 "I am here today to fulfill my promise to you. I am announcing a package of Rs 1.25 lakh crore for Bihar. Now you give me your blessings to change the fate of Bihar," he said at a government function in <keyword id="1076700" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Arrah">Arrah</keyword> district, where several projects were launched. 
 
The PM also made it clear that the Rs 1.25 lakh crore package will be in addition to the ongoing projects worth Rs 40, 657 crore, announced previously. 
 In the wake of high-stakes state assembly polls, the BJP is banking heavily on the Centre's development package to wrest power from <keyword id="6358190" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nitish-Kumar">Nitish Kumar</keyword>, its one time ally-turned-rival, who has now joined hands with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Lalu+Prasad%27s+RJD+">Lalu Prasad's RJD</a> to take on the saffron combine. 
 
Attacking Kumar for his claim that Bihar was no longer a 'bimaru' state as claimed by Modi in his previous rally in Bihar, Modi wondered why he had been seeking packages all the time. 
 
He said: "Our chief minister turned very angry and said who is Modi to call Bihar a 'bimaru' state. He said with authority that Bihar is no longer a bimaru state. If it is true, then I will be the happiest person. I welcome this.” 
 
"Tell me, if somebody is healthy, will he go to a doctor. If somebody's stomach is full, will he go anywhere seeking food? I am surprised that on the one hand he says Bihar is not bimaru and on the other he keeps asking for something or the other. Let the people of Bihar decide," Modi said. 
 
He further cited the previous two packages of Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 12,000 crore given to the state in 2003 and 2013 and said the CM could not utilize them properly. 
 
Referring to Kumar's split with BJP in 2013, he said the chief minister then went to 'Delhi Durbar' and pleaded that please give me something to keep my honour. 
 
"For political benefits, he put at stake the prestige of Bihar," Modi said, adding that Rs 12000 crore given by UPA was like giving a candy to a child who cries too much. 
 
Invoking freedom fighter Babu Veer Kunwar Singh, who hailed from Arrah, and seeking <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Jayaprakash+Narayan">Jayaprakash Narayan's</a> blessings, he went on to ask people, "Should it be Rs 50, 000 crore or more, Rs 60, 000 cr, Rs 70, 000 cr...," he said as the crowd cheered and then stood up as he made the final announcement of Rs 1.25 lakh crore. 
 Wooing the electorate, he said people of Bihar were bestowed with "sharp intellect" and mentioned that <keyword id="120638" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="chanakya">Chanakya</keyword> was born here. 
 
He also spoke about the "comprehensive work" being done by his government, especially regarding skilling youth and training women, to develop the country and took a jibe at the previous dispensations, saying they had a "piecemeal" approach to progress. 
 
The CM, who had gone to receive Modi at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Patna+Airport">Patna Airport</a>, was not present at the Arrah function where the PM inaugurated &amp; laid foundation stone of 11 National Highway projects of 700 km at a cost of Rs 9,700 crore.

Bihar to soon be flooded with cash! Rs 1.65 lakh cr handed out for the state

Thousands of youths assembled at the <keyword id="14209558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jahanabad-railway-station" source="Orion">Jahanabad railway station</keyword> on Patna-Gaya rail route on Thursday and blocked the tracks as protests against the <keyword id="14209557" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Centres-Agnipath-scheme" source="Orion">Centre's Agnipath scheme</keyword> entered day two in Bihar. Demanding rollback of the scheme and recruitment under normal process, the agitators also blocked Patna-Gaya road route. At the <keyword id="204829" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jahanabad" source="Orion">Jahanabad</keyword> railway station, the agitating students blocked the Patna-Gaya passenger train. The railway officials, along with district police, attempted to placate them and requested them to leave the railway track to restore transportation on the route. Besides, a large number of protestors also assembled at Kako Mor on Patna Gaya main road and burnt tyres. They raised slogans against Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword> and Defence Minister <keyword id="6355121" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rajnath-singh" source="Orion">Rajnath Singh</keyword> accusing them of "compromising" the youths' future. Many of them alleged that the Centre was not hiring 'Agniveers' but "Bali Ka Bakra" (Scapegoats) for four years. The agitating students set a coach of intercity express at Bhabua road railway station afire in Kaimur districts. They threw a burning tyre in the intercity express after passengers deboarded. In Nawada, the protestors burnt tyres on Nawada railway station and on busy Prajatantra Chowk. Due to massive protests, the traffic on the Gaya-Keul rail section was also disrupted. The Howrah-Gaya express was also stopped at Warsaliganj railway station. Several trains on this route were also stopped at several stations. Incidents of stone pelting were also reported from Arrah. Earlier on Wednesday, a large number of youths demonstrated in Muzaffarpur and Buxar districts of the state and disrupted road and rail traffic. NEW DELHI: Looking to cement its frontrunner status, BJP faces a formidable array of rivals ranging from Congress, Samajwadi Party, BSP, Janata Dal(U) to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha as the biggest round of polling in 121 seats in 12 states takes place on Thursday. 
 
Though BJP is expected to do well in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh where it won state polls last December, it needs to prove its mettle in UP and Bihar and retrieve ground lost to Congress in the Karnataka election in 2013. 
 
A strong performance by BJP in UP, Maharashtra and Bihar, which account for 168 seats, is critical for the party to cross the 200-seat mark, crucial to powering BJP, and specifically its PM candidate Narendra Modi, to the magic halfway mark of 272. 
 
The Shiv Sena and BJP have their task cut out in western Maharashtra’s Maratha belt where the Congress-NCP control over sugar cooperatives gives them significant political clout. NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s family boroughs of Madha and Baramati will also be tested. 
 
The central stretch of Bihar going to polls is a big test for Janata Dal(U) leader Nitish Kumar as the party holds important seats like Arrah, Nalanda and Munger and must contend with the two-pronged threat of RJD-Congress and BJP-LJP. 
 
BJP needs a high strike rate to remain on course to winning more than 20 of Bihar’s 40 Lok Sabha seats, an objective integral to the party’s hopes of picking up a rich haul of seats in UP and Bihar. 
JD(U) is at risk of being squeezed out of the frame with RJD-Congress appearing a preferred option for Muslims and upper castes, as well as a chunk of middle castes gravitating towards BJP which has sought to encash Modi’s backward caste credentials. 
 
In UP, BJP is banking on a counter-mobilization that cuts across castes to help it challenge SP and check BSP. The latter may face the toughest test as it must compete with SP for the minority vote while protecting parts of its dalit base from drifting to the BJP. 
 
In the 11 seats of Odisha that include tribal ones like Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj as well as those in the coastal heartland, BJP has emerged as a surprise force but its capacity to convert support into seats will be tested by lack of organized presence. 
 
In MP, BJP holds most of the 10 seats and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia remains the sole hope. In Bengal, Congress has been reduced to a bit player with even BJP grabbing more eyeballs. In Jharkhand, BJP has just two of the six seats up for grabs, and hopes to improve at the cost of Congress-JMM and Babulal Marandi’s JVM(P).
