However, the Hindi version will be released at a later date. The movie hit OTTs within three weeks of its theatrical release. Those who have a premium or super plan subscription of the OTT platform, which is ₹1,499 and ₹899 per annum, will be able to watch it online. The movie will also be shown on Star Gold and Star Gold 2 channels on TV but the date is unknown. The sports action film was produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Charmme Kaur and Puri Jagannath, who is also the director of the movie. It opened on the silver screen in August and ran in theatres for about three weeks across the country. The total box office collection of the film was just ₹20.5 crore, according to <a href="https://www.bollywoodhungama.com/movie/liger/box-office/">Bollywood Hungama</a>. While the estimated budget of the movie was ₹125 crore. According to several <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/movies/regional-cinema/story/vijay-deverakonda-to-return-rs-6-crore-from-his-salary-to-producers-after-liger-flops-reports-1996642-2022-09-05">reports</a>, lead actor Devarakonda had returned ₹6 crore from his fee to the producer after the movie performed badly at the box office. Professional American Boxer Mike Tyson also made an extended cameo in the movie, which was the surprise element of the movie, as per media <a href="https://www.zeebiz.com/trending/entertainment/news-liger-ott-release-when-and-where-to-watch-vijay-deverakondas-debut-bollywood-film-200139">reports</a>. The movie also stars veteran actress Ramya Krishnan, who is well-known for her role as the matriarch in the Bahubali franchise.

<keyword id="2938650" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Online-Music-streaming-company">Online Music-streaming company</keyword> <keyword id="2060236" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Saavn">Saavn</keyword> has raised $100 million (Rs 635 Crores) from Tiger Global Management and few others. This comes in at a time when it is preparing to launch a video service. 
 
The company was valued at $300-400 million. New investors like Quilvest which manage some of the world's richest families also participated in the funding drive. 
 
"We will be investing very heavily in our product roadmap, user acquisition and launching new services like video", Rishi Malhotra, co-founder and CEO said. 
 The current funds would enable Saavn to compete with domestic music streaming providers like <keyword id="18898" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hungama">Hungama</keyword> and <keyword id="-77" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="gaana">Gaana</keyword>. Apple Music arrived in India last week with the launch of its new streaming service in 100 countries. 
 
"Saavn continues to innovate consumer products designed for India's growing mobile user base," Tiger Global partner Lee Fixel said in a statement. 
 
The size of India's music industry is pegged at Rs 980 Crores. It is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 14% from 2014 to 2019, with digital channel or digital music accounting for a 55% share. 
 
Saavn has said it is adding 1 million active users every month, and has increased its user base to 14 million from 11 million in March. The company expects to cross 20 million active users a month by the end this year. Rivals Hungama and Gaana have 50 million and 12 million users respectively.

For some time now, rumours were rife that the company was restructuring its operations and Soundbox was the first to report that Dhingana could be quitting the game soon.

 It is the second <keyword id="1368003" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="music-streaming-service">music streaming service</keyword> to shut shop within the span of three months. In November last year, Network18-owned In.com shut down its music offering as it could not meet the cost to content and monetisation was not adequate to continue the business. With Dhingana’s closure, the <keyword id="4627" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Music">Indian music</keyword> market will just have three major players in this space – Times Internet’s <keyword id="-77" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="gaana">Gaana</keyword>, Tiger Global-backed <keyword id="2060236" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Saavn">Saavn</keyword> and <keyword id="18898" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hungama">Hungama</keyword>, which is extensively supported by <keyword id="17191" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="T-series">T-Series</keyword> content. 
 
Surprisingly, Dhingana has not given any specific reason for the sudden shutdown. Last we checked, its <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dhingana.free.app">mobile app</a> was up at Google Play Store. 
 One key reason could be T-Series withdrawing its music from Dhingana. T-Series said it was parting ways as there was very little traction on the Dhingana platform, compared to other services. So it is quite possible that a <keyword id="2060242" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Content-crunch">content crunch</keyword> or <keyword id="2060241" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Revenue-crunch">revenue crunch</keyword> has driven the company to withdraw its services. 
 “We were not able to see much traction in the service and secondly we couldn’t agree on the commercials and both parties thus decided to part ways in an amicable manner,” <keyword id="2060251" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="T-Series-president">T-Series president</keyword> <keyword id="835320" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Neeraj-Kalyan">Neeraj Kalyan</keyword> told TechCrunch at the time of the break-up. 
 Set up in 2007 by twin brothers Swapnil and <keyword id="1317460" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Snehal-Shinde">Snehal Shinde</keyword>, Dhingana essentially operated from the US although the company had an India office in Pune. It was a popular music service and claimed to have more than 9 million unique users per month while more than 50% users accessed the service from the US and Europe. Dhingana offered a library of 1 million-plus songs, in more than 42 Indian languages and genres. 
 The company was backed by VC investors such as <keyword id="455799" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lightspeed-Venture-Partners">Lightspeed Venture Partners</keyword>, <keyword id="309606" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Helion-Venture-Partners">Helion Venture Partners</keyword> and <keyword id="683320" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Inventus-Capital-Partners">Inventus Capital Partners</keyword>, and had raised $7 million in Series B <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> in October 2012. Lightspeed led that round while existing investors Inventus and Helion also participated in the funding. 
 In spite of growing competition, Dhingana had gone ahead with its growth plans last year and tied up with <keyword id="2060229" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="General-Mobile-Corporation">General Mobile Corporation</keyword> (G-Mobi) to pre-install its <keyword id="683603" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="music-app">music app</keyword> on 1 million devices. This would have enabled Dhingana’s <keyword id="956764" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Android-app">Android app</keyword> to be installed on Intex, Zen, Hitech, m-Tech and Maxx devices. The company also partnered with <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> for a music subscription service, which allows users to download unlimited music with no data charges. The service was to be made available to Idea users using <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> smartphones and WAP feature phones. In a bid to monetise its mobile content, Dhingana came up with a paid subscription service for its <keyword id="75489" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IOS">iOS</keyword> app, called <keyword id="2060249" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dhingana-Gold">Dhingana Gold</keyword>. 
 With so many growth and monetisation plans in place, it is still unclear why Dhingana had to bite the dust and go <keyword id="1909965" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="out-of-business">out of business</keyword> so suddenly. JioStar announces plans starting at ₹15 – here’s everything you need to know

Kapoor called it ‘too special’ on Twitter. But is the business of nostalgia strong enough to mint money at the box office? Several iconic romantic films including – Shah Rukh Khan (SRK)-Kajol-starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge (DDLJ), Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone’s Tamasha, James Cameron’s Titanic in 3D and Jab We Met – were released across PVR, Inox and Cinepolis theatres during Valentine’s week this February. Even though DDLJ remains the longest-running film in Indian cinema and is immensely popular with multiple reruns, it found tough competition this Valentine’s week from the Jab We Met rerun. “Jab We Met has now started beating DDLJ in PVR. Jab We Met collected ₹2 lakh on Friday. The collections then jumped to approximately ₹5 lakh on Saturday while the collections on Sunday were ₹6 lakh. On Monday, while DDLJ collected ₹6 lakh, Jab We Met collected ₹6.5 lakh in the multiplex chain,” reported<a href="https://www.bollywoodhungama.com/news/features/jab-mets-re-release-springs-surprise-collects-monday-sunday-also-beats-dilwale-dulhania-le-jayenge-pvr/"> Bollywood Hungama</a>. Rerun campaigns for boosting footfalls PVR Oberoi Mall in Goregaon, Mumbai decided to play six shows of Jab We Met on Valentine’s day. Tamasha had 150 shows with 50% audience occupancy and Titanic 3D version rerun had 1,000 shows, with 60% occupancy, PVR told Business Insider India. The PVR’S Valentine Week Film Festival (10th-16th February 2023) also re-released other romantic titles across languages – Ticket to Paradise (English), Ved (Marathi), Geetha Govindam (Telugu), Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (Tamil), Hridayam (Malayalam), Googly (Kannada) and Love Ni Bhavai (Gujarati). “Screened across 25 cities in India, Jab We Met, DDLJ, Tamasha, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and Titanic especially received good response, recording average occupancy of 50-70%. Shows of Jab We Met had to be increased to meet the increased demand,” Gautam Dutta, CEO, PVR, told Business Insider India. PVR aims to continue with their rerun campaigns in the future, given the power nostalgia wields on millennials and even GenZs, Dutta added. For chains like PVR, reruns have been an important part of their campaign to boost theatre occupancy – be it re-releasing 11 films starring Amitabh Bachchan on his 80th birthday or the ‘Dilip Kumar Hero of Heroes’ campaign celebrating his 100th birth anniversary. The release of DDLJ during SRK’s birthday last year collected ₹23.4 lakh, claiming 60% occupancy then. “When you watch Jab We Met, you also watch it with 300 people who are die-hard fans of that film. Witnessing this celebration is pure joy. You know the punchlines, where to laugh, where to cry. Props to the Film Federation of India for bringing these classics back. They are also driving theatre occupancy,” Sucharita Tyagi, an Indian film critic told Business Insider India. Many movies like DDLJ, Tamasha, Jab We Met are already available on OTTs yet cinephiles are flocking to theatres in hoards. An Ormax report states the Indian theatre audience has lost <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/indian-film-industry-lost-24-million-moviegoers-to-the-pandemic-ormax/articleshow/97918537.cms">24 million</a> moviegoers to the pandemic. This is accentuated by low impact of small and medium-budget films and availability of OTT platforms. The OTT audience in India has grown 20% in 2022 with 424 million active users. Yet, it looks like the big screen has its pull. “We are seeing films like Deewar in theatres, which was released when we weren’t even born. It is a novelty experience. Reruns boost film communities. The Priyanka Chopra led Jio-MAMI festival is also bringing physical screenings back. It is a good time for cinema I believe,” added Tyagi. Impact on collections: minuscule Reruns may boost film communities, but will they be able to revive flagging footfalls and lift box office collections? Karan Taurani, analyst at Elara Capital, believes reruns are not powerful enough to impact collections or drive theatre occupancy. They are rather indicative of fresh Bollywood content. Also, reruns have limitations in their reach. For instance, a Jab We Met will rake in more numbers in Punjab or Delhi as compared to South Indian cities like Chennai. “Reruns are happening because Pathaan has seen a strong run in the last two and a half weeks. Little to no fresh content is being offered, which is why these films are being re-released. The number of Hindi films released every quarter have come down 25-30%, from over 20 films every quarter pre-pandemic to less than 14 films now. There is greater reliance on big-budget films,” Taurani told Business Insider India. SRK-Deepika Padukone-starrer Pathaan crossed ₹500 crore in India in 20 days, contributing 46% to <a href="https://www.ormaxmedia.com/insights/stories/the-india-box-office-report-january-2023.html?s=08">January’s India box office</a> collections. Films released in January 2023 grossed ₹1,389 crore at the domestic box office, the highest since April 2022, as per <a href="https://www.ormaxmedia.com/insights/stories/the-india-box-office-report-january-2023.html?s=08">Ormax report.</a> A caveat – only six films managed to cross the ₹10 crore mark, indicating greater reliance on big-budget movies like Pathaan. “The impact of reruns is very minuscule. Collection is low because these are consumed more in terms of single screens where ticket prices are low. I don’t foresee a large number of people going to multiplexes for these films as ticket prices are 3-4 times higher,” added Taurani. But Tyagi states these movies are helping India come back to the theatres, although she too wishes the ticket prices of these movies were cheaper. “I cannot say if these movies are being used as fillers before the big releases but I am glad India is coming back to the theatres. I wish the ticket prices and snacks at concession stands were cheaper at theatres to make movie watching a more affordable experience,” added Tyagi. Reruns may not be too successful at raking in the moolah at the box office but what they surely do is revive the currency of nostalgia – allowing the audience to relive the past while providing theatre chains a respite from falling audience footfalls.

Importantly, the effort of the Signatories, through this Tool Kit, is to also address feedback received from Ministry of Information and Broadcasting inter-alia, on the issues of conflict of interest and prohibited content. The Code has been adopted by seventeen (17) leading Online Curated Content Providers in India. The present set of signatories include ZEE5, Viacom 18 (Voot), Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, SonyLiv, MX Player, Jio Cinema, Eros Now, Alt Balaji, Arre, HoiChoi, Hungama, Shemaroo, Discovery Plus, Aha and Lionsgate Play. The Tool Kit is effective from 10 February 2021. In light of the <keyword id="6363148" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="information-technology">Information Technology</keyword> (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, IAMAI is establishing the DPCGC as the Level-II Self-Regulatory Body for publishers of OCC as required under Rule 12, with the intent to empower consumers to make informed viewing choices. The DPCGC will have an OCCP Council composed of publishers of OCC as members and an independent Grievance Redressal Board [GRB] -- consisting of a chairperson and six members. The GRB will be chaired by a retired Supreme Court/High Court judge and the members would comprise eminent persons from the media and entertainment industry, experts from various fields including child rights, minority rights, and media law. The GRB will oversee and ensure the alignment and adherence to the Code of Ethics by the OCCP Council members, provide guidance to entities on Code of Ethics, address grievances that have not been resolved by the publisher within 15 days and hear grievances/appeals filed by the complainant(s). Subho Ray, President, Internet and <keyword id="592650" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mobile-Association-of-India">Mobile Association of India</keyword>, said, “IAMAI and members of the DPCGC are deeply committed to protecting consumer rights and empowering consumers with the right tools to make informed decisions, as well as have their grievances addressed. The formation of this body is an important step towards consumer choice, as more and more people are viewing content online.” IAMAI has notified the <keyword id="82970" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Information-and-Broadcasting">Ministry of Information and Broadcasting</keyword> that they are in the process of forming the DPCGC and has also shared a list of publishers who have confirmed to be members of the Council. Netflix and 10) Shemaroo. IAMAI is also awaiting confirmation from several other such digital publishers.
