Modi cabinet might get a reshuffle after April 12

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi might be going for a cabiner reshuffle next month after the Parliament session gets over on April 12. While there are some critical vacancies that need to be filled, there are also some fresh faces that need to be brought in to the cabinet.

Since Manohar Parrikar has become Goa’s CM, the defence ministry has been given to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Since both ministries come with "heavy workload," chances are that a new defence minister will soon be introduced.

Jaitley holding both ministries is ironical also because he himself will be taking a call on the financial demands that he will raise as the defence minister.

Modi government, which was formed in June 2014, is going to complete three years and may now feel the need to induct fresh faces. The last time there was a change in the cabinet was in July last year. When HRD minister Smriti Irani was shifted to textiles and law minister Sadananda Gowda took charge of statistics. Venkaiah Naidu also took charge of information and broadcasting portfolio and M J Akbar became the minister of state for external affairs.
