Won’t tax agricultural income, says Jaitley

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley took to social media platform Twitter to say that the government has no plans of taxing agricultural income, thus dismissing NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy’s suggestion.

Jaitley further said that as per the Constitutional allocation of powers, the Centre has no authority to tax agricultural incomes.

Debroy had suggested that farm income above a certain level be taxed so that the tax base can be widened.
