Increasing
automation and
new digital technologies have started to
pose a threat to the IT sector all around the globe; however, the situation is more critical in India since Indian IT companies are finding it increasingly hard to retrain their employees as per the new requirement.

As per a recent report by industry body
Nasscom, Indian IT sector needs to retrain up to 1.5 million workers, which make nearly 50% of the entire sectoral workforce in the industry. Not long after this report, consulting firm
Capgemini India said that most of India's IT workforce cannot be trained the required emerging skill sets, thus hinting at high job losses in middle and senior levels.
Increasing automation means that roles that were earlier given to employees with over 10 years of experience, constituting the middle level of the IT sector, have now been replaced by machines; like assigning people to projects and assisting project managers with decisions regarding manpower and project timelines.

As per an earlier report, IT companies will also not be giving out much
salary hikes to their mid-level employees.
