Snapdeal launches special zone at Dharamshala
Snapdeal has joined hands with the Himachal Pradesh government to launch a 'special zone' that will promote the sale of local products on its website.
The website is set to unveil a dedicated online store for local handicrafts and traditional products made by local craftsmen. The list of possible goods includes Tankha Paintings, Kangra Arts, handicrafts and organic products.
Local artisans can join as sellers, and the website would allow them to sell and market their products across India. A pick up service has been set up for the new sellers.
"With the Special Ecommerce Zone we are looking at invigorating and mainstreaming local economies by linking and assisting them to harness the potential of the internet," Kunal Bahl, Co-founder and CEO of Snapdeal said.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said, "I am delighted that Snapdeal has taken the initiative to create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in Dharamshala by creating a special e-commerce zone.
"It will have a positive impact on the economy of this region which until now has been largely based on tourism."
The company said the initiative is in line with the steps the company has decide to take that will help small and medium sized businesses(SMEs) to use the internet effectively.
