Domestically, the company's sales increased 14.6% during the month to 1,18,895 units as against 1,03,719 units this time last year.
However, it was in the sale of mini segment cars, like Alto and WagonR, that the company’s growth was halted since the sales declined 8.7% to 36,678 units from 40,159 units in March 2015.
Sales of the compact segment, including Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire and Baleno, registered an increase of 20.9% to 46,786 units in March this year as compared to 38,710 units last year same month.
The compact sedan Dzire Tour increased its sales by 21% during the month under review at 3,161 units as against 2,613 units in March 2015, while sales of mid-sized sedan Ciaz rose 28.9% to 5,480 units during the month. Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, S-Cross and recently launched compact SUV Vitara Brezza surged over two-folds to 13,894 units in March this year from 6,218 units in the corresponding month last year.
"The company ended 2015-16 with its highest ever sales of 14,29,248 units, a growth of 10.6 per cent. This comprises highest ever domestic sales of 13,05,351 units and 1,23,897 units of exports," MSI said.
It added that the top four best-selling models in India were Alto, Dzire, Swift and WagonR, all of which are from Maruti Suzuki, for the fourth year in a row.
