After bullet train, Japan will also give its Midas touch to Indian roads
When Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will come to India, apart from discussions on the bullet train project, talks will also be held on road infrastructure.

If everything goes as per planned, Japan will collaborate in India’s road-building efforts.

In this regard, India and Japan will launch a company to fund road projects and will have an equal stake in that firm.

"The cost of raising a loan would not be more than 5%, including hedging, which is expected to be 4-4.5%," an official told ET.

India wants to add length of its highways by 50,000 km in the next five years, from present 96,000. This is a plan which requires an investment of Rs 5 lakh crore.

Reportedly, JBIC is one of the bigger providers of funding for large infrastructure projects. It holds equity in the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project.
